  1. pacific will do it, a strong pacific signal can overwhelm whatever the atlantic wants to do, just like it did in the winter. Strong war with westerly winds.
  2. and 100s with dry heat is far better, I think we return to that this summer
  3. THE GOAT OF ALL SUMMERS 2010: The record heat that affected the region on April 6-7 included 93 degrees at the Washington-Dulles Airport on April 6, the earliest 90-degree reading on record. On April 7, Newark, New Jersey, shattered its daily record by seven degrees when the maximum temperature rose to 92 degrees. The Northeast ended up with its second warmest April in 116 years. 2010 - A temperature of 80 degrees is measured on Grandfather Mountain, NC, the warmest ever measured in April and three degrees short of the all-time record high for any month. It even hit 90 on the south shore on this day in 2010
  4. hot and dry weather is good rain once a week is fine, but the other days should be hot and dry
  5. those amazing record lows in 1982 in the wake of the historical April blizzard
  6. wow we hit mid 70s before the sea breeze came in after 3 pm
  7. I don't remember it at all-- I think the 1999 outbreaks (in May and September) were stronger weren't they?
  8. records across the board! 74 at JFK, new record (broke the record from 2010!) 75 at LGA new record (broke the record from the same year!) I don't know what the high at EWR was or if that broke the record too
  9. Besides climate change's innate issues there's a lot of other horrible stuff that can happen in a warming world, including the mass release of millions of years old dormant pathogens as the earth warms.
  10. Dad passed away in 2014 so I know how that feels. That entire year is a blur for me.
  11. The anniversary of the historic April 1982 blizzard, it would be lovely to see satellite images, weather maps and photos from his historic event!
  12. 1982 - An unprecedented April blizzard began in the northeastern U.S. One to two feet of snow fell across Massachusetts and Connecticut, and up to 26 inches was reported in Maine. New York City received a foot of snow. Winds reached 70 to 80 mph during the storm, and the storm also produced numerous thunderstorms, which contributed to the heavy snow. (Storm Data) What an amazing snowstorm this was, it would be awesome to see some satellite images and weather maps from this historic event!
  13. whats causing these periods to become shorter do you think, Chris?
  14. Yes that means JFK can get to 90 too! I hate the S to SE flow events and how frequent they've become. NW to W is my favorite wind direction in the spring and summer.
  15. Thanks this is fascinating, Don! This could also be used to assess the risks of other anomalous events-- like tornado outbreaks, high wind events, big snow or rain storms, etc.?
  16. Extreme Forecast Index-- is this an index that forecasts when record highs or record lows are likely to occur and doesn't default to climo like most long range forecasts do?
  17. wow 12-20 almost every day is over 80 and 19 is close to 90...thats when it hit 96 in 2002!
  18. Hopefully the -PNA pumps all the way up to Alaska. I have no use for cool soggy weather now.
  19. <3 yes hot and dry! We have been turning towards drier weather the last couple of springs and summers The old pattern is back!
  20. and it looks like it would be basin wide, not "eastern" now
  21. some really loud bird is chirping at 3:30 am.... what kind of bird could this be?
