Oh no, I guess it comes down to the last week?
-
My bad day was yesterday lol
-
Yes sea level was probably different back then too, at one point Long Island was attached to CT (you can see it from the shape of the coastline along the Sound.) Greenland ice cap melt and also the melt now observed in Antarctica may be what tips sea level rise over the edge.

Funny I was using that map to look at the extreme snow drought in the Alps where it hasn't snowed much in years and people have been going to the ER for trying to ski on small patches of snow
-
Europe ski areas have also had no snow, the Alps are barren and that's where their water comes from Those areas have not been getting much snow for a few years now.
-
was Feb 1922 the three day snowstorm? that never happened again
-
The problem with GW is all the other horrible things it is doing, our local snowfall is a minor concern. Also, it doesn't look like a geometric progression, once we reach a certain threshold, GW will rapidly accelerate (and so will sea level rise.) Those of us who live along the coast probably won't be able to live here by 2080.

I think that was a south block too but the last two years were worse.

so the value of using these indices as predictive tools is now decreasing correct Chris? They mean something different from what they used to mean, so analogs have much lower value
-
the south block is the new pattern of the last few years
-
it took some doing but we are close to matching 2001-02 for DJF temps, think we exceed it and set the new record, Don?
-
They should instead tell them about the ones that had to go to the hospital because of respiratory distress, including an entire family.

Islip and Bridgeport beat their previous records by 12 and 11 degrees that's pretty amazing
-
Officially hit 70-- 71 at Islip is amazing for Long Island in February too!
-
I found it really alarming when I found out Norfolk Southern is so happy they are now allowed to make trains longer than they should be and that particular train had a nickname that made it pretty clear they knew it was a ticking time bomb. They fully deserve the incoming lawsuits.

2002 spring/summer oncoming.... and stay tuned if it turns into a winter next year similar to 2002-03 ;-)
-
I've hit that same infuriating number three times already it hits 69.4 a few clouds move in, it falls back to 66 and then it clears up again, rinse and repeat. It's so annoying I want to put a blowtorch to my thermometer just to get it over 70 lol
-
This is just as fun as hitting 100 in July
-
so the moderate to strong el nino of 02-03 changed all that?

Victory!

February has been much drier though, nice sunny and warm. -
I just sneezed lol

The measurement in the NYC area was so off for Jan 1996 lol. You could tell it was a lot more than 20" What happened to you in PD2 and Jan 2016?
-
well it certainly rose really quickly, we see this in the summer too with west winds after a night of radiational cooling 70 within reach here now
