  1. 1/15/24 will be cited for the next decade in all "So you're saying there's a chance" posts.
  2. Looks like the reactor fire has finally been contained.
  3. The Chernobyl Sidewalk continues to fight against caving.
  4. Cobblestone Capitol Hill street starving to slooooowly cave. Brick sidewalks covered. My concrete sidewalk that always seems to have a Chernobyl-like heating system beneath it, is starting to get covered in a few spots.
  5. I think I'm in a different microclimate. I'm right near the SE freeway, about six blocks from the Anacostia. I match DCA most of the time.
  6. Brick sidewalks on the Hill showing the first hints of caving, but other hard surfaces holding strong.
  7. Snow just starting to fall on Capitol Hill. When I was little and we'd look out the window and see new snow on the ground, my mom would always quote Bambi and say, "Look, Mom, what's all that white stuff?" 50+ years later, and I still say it every time.
  8. I'm so old I remember when this thread had people wondering why LWX was suddenly so bullish.
  9. NBC 4 showing the Potomac over its banks in Alexandria.
  10. Winds starting to kick up on Capitol Hill, rain getting heavier, and the streetlights just came on.
  11. I was in it on 95 in South Carolina and bailed over to a US highway. Between the deluge, the standing water, the stiff wind, and the idiots going 80, I opted for a slower-but-safer route. Finally started letting up around Brunswick, GA. Southern NC also has all that construction now. Ugly. Sent from my Pixel 8 using Tapatalk
  12. I'm on my way to FL but am stopped for the night in South Carolina along I-95. I'm hoping that the bulk of the rain will be out of my way by about noon, since I have another five hours to drive. Would not want to be on the road when the worst of the blob is overhead.
  13. Belated fog post from yesterday, looking from the Kennedy Center across to Roosevelt Island, with a foggy void where Key Bridge and the Georgetown Waterfront usually are.
  14. I just came back to DC on the PA turnpike from Ohio to Breezewood. Not as far along as I expected/hoped, but a decent start.
  15. People think I'm crazy when I tell them I'm now spending both summers and winters in northern Wyoming. "But all that cold weather and snow!" "Exactly!" And then I say that I love snow but that it basically doesn't snow in DC anymore.
  16. Earlier TWC showed video of street flooding in Ft. Myers Beach. Hope people up the coast who won't "take a direct hit" are noting that.
  17. A few years ago I drove US98 from Ft. Walton Beach all the way to Tampa (with a detour to Cedar Key). A whole lot of Dollar Generals are going to get washed away on this track.
  18. I'm still mad at Kate for cancelling the REM show I had tickets to in Tallahassee (though, as a Gator then and now, a little bit of Tallawhackee destruction made up for it.
  19. They are going to have to retire "I" names altogether.
  20. Looking forward to getting some tropical remnants--in Wyoming.
  21. This storm has La Plata special written all over it.
  22. Turning out to be just the weather I like at the ballpark. Not sunny, and a good non-sweaty temp.
  23. Just caught this, looking at the Bighorns from south of Sheridan.
  24. Definitely drier, even in the comparatively "lush" area in the eastern Bighorn foothills. I think the heavy wet snow is more likely to come in Oct/Nov and March/April. I'm guesstimating here, but it looks like Sheridan reported about .7" QPF over Jan. 26-28, and an observer not too far from me reported 13.4" (not sure the exact time frame and I think snow was still falling). So that's a pretty good ratio :), though the wind was definitely blowing in a good upslope direction. Got some more snow coming next week, will pay closer attention. Right now the big diff in the forecast is QPF (Euro 1.3", GFS .8").
