  1. And judging by the radar I assume the ffw will be expanded to the entire city.
  2. Rivers of water in the street gutters but also along the brick sidewalk. Grass between sidewalk and curb now a lake. A time I am glad to literally live on a Hill. This is crazy rain.
  3. Monsoon with light show started here on the Hill about 15 minutes ago. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  4. Ditto on the not much wind but crazy close lightning strikes and really loud and long rumbles of thunder. And just saw a long lightning bolt flash, and another, probably hitting by the Anacostia.
  5. Looking forward to the official naming so we can start all of the Yabba Dabba Do references.
  6. I remember the summer of 1980 so well! I guess having an August birthday makes me a little more focused on my sense of its weather over the years.
  7. Is there anything in the recordkeeping that shows what longtime residents myself and my father have been sensing, that August in DC is not as awful as it used to be, or at least as it was in the 70s and 80s? Seems like the first signposts of summer's end (even if there's still plenty of warm days ahead) come earlier than they used to.
  8. I gave my yard a good soaking early this morning, so of course I have now brought the rain. Nice steady downpour on the Hill right now.
  9. Something approximating sunlight starting to appear on Capitol Hill.
  10. "So much lightning the street lights turned off."
  11. Brother in Bethesda near River Road reporting incredible lightning, but no rain.
  12. Had the cutest little downpour with one rumble of thunder. Sun now back out.
  13. Pretty much need that Greensboro to Baltimore line to fill in for DC proper to have any hopes. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  14. Please let Nationals Park be in the cross hairs.
  15. Garden needed tending to, completely in the shade at this time of day, but I am now soaked.
  16. Pouring so hard here on Capitol Hill it's coming through the transom above my back door. Yay. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  17. I was downtown during an absolute monsoon at about 3:15 pm (after a previous cloudburst about 45 minutes earlier). Came home to Capitol Hill and apparently it's only ever drizzled here.
  18. My one-year badge just a few months ahead of my 11th anniversary!
  19. Oh sure, it goes right over my house and I'm 2,000 miles away.
  20. That cool radar-based rainfall totals map someone looked to recently shows that, as I suspected, I was right in the line of the heaviest rain, though about six blocks to the west of the deepest purples. Estimates 2.84" for me, and I believe it. Just poured and poured. Rushing rivers of water in the gutters, which I don't remember seeing very often. One really close lightning strike, but otherwise mainly just a great light show.
  21. Keeping an eye on the clouds (and the radar) to the northwest from my seat at Nats Park.
  22. Yeah, I see now that it looks like a Burke Special.
