  1. I just checked xmacis2. The Quakertown coop reported 80/43 on March 28 and 43/21 on the 29th. Belvidere, NJ reported 84/38 on the 28th and 44/22 on the 29th. Definitely an interesting temperature drop.
  2. I think 2010 was our last truly cold December. 2017 had a frigid ending but I don't think it qualifies overall. I wonder if it would take a predominantly -NAO and -EPO pattern to get it done.
  3. I'm not sure about 30 year averages, but according to xmacis2, NYC averaged about 32" in the 50 year period between 1870 and 1920. I think the difference is that much of that was made up of 4-8," 6-10" types of events with KUs being less common. Obviously it was also much colder then.
  4. Imagine a cold winter with below average snowfall. That would be the most shocking outcome.
  5. I would just like to see a freeze before December at this point.
  6. Many of our very good winters consist of one good storm and a great three weeks of winter. Any winter with one great month (February) and one decent month (December) should at least warrant a "very good" rating in my book. Otherwise the same could be said about winters like 04-05 and 09-10.
  7. It was also one of the all time greats in the Poconos with a band of 30-40" in NE PA.
  8. Incredibly humid stretch for the next week or so. The lowest forecasted temperature here is 67 for the next 7 days.
  9. I also noticed the 1 and 2 coincidence for bad winters. It seems to have started in full in 1931-32.
  10. I can’t believe I have a high of only 68 forecasted on Saturday with only scattered showers and thunderstorms.
  11. I would like it somewhat regularly in the spring and summer but not every day.
  12. Philly had a high of only 49 on June 2, 1907.
  13. I don't think they had quite that much but I believe other places in the Poconos were in that range.
  14. Stroudsburg, PA, not far from where I live, evidently recorded 35.4" total and 6.8" in one hour from the March 20, 1958 storm. Much of that also occurred in the middle of the day with temperatures around freezing.
  15. I was researching some of the coldest Marches and March stretches and came upon this: The stretch from March 17-23 was particularly insane.
  16. I was only 7 and not following the weather at the time, but it must have been a tremendous heartbreak here in NW NJ. Only like 4-5" total after HECS totals forecasted .
  17. Maybe during the LIA winters of the 1700s and 1800s? Otherwise not sure.
  18. True. That was also a much colder winter with a bit more snow in January.
  19. Incredible February. This has almost become a top tier winter.
  20. Still waiting for updated spotter reports from Mt. Holly.
  21. Moderate to heavy snow in Forks Township, PA where I work. Already a bit of snow on my car that I'll have to clear later.
  22. February 2014 needs recognition as well. Consistently cold (though not to the extent of 2015), along with consistently deep snowpack with back to back storms on February 3 and 5 in addition to a great two parter right before Valentine’s Day. Probably one of the more underrated recent winters in general.
  23. I mixed with sleet in northern Warren County about 20 minutes ago. Odd to be both on the northern edge and having the mix line reach you.
  24. Moderate to heavy snow here in northern Warren County. What a difference from just an hour ago when when we had barely a flake.
