  1. Despite decent rain in a few places over the past couple weeks, it’s also very dry here as well. The problem is it’s not been widespread. Cherokee is also about 15 ft lower than it should be, and TVA says it’s not going up anymore. In fact, they said it should actually drop lower into the Fall. I suppose if we got a ton of rain, it could rise a little, but it’s not looking like a good lake year for recreation anywhere around here.
  2. Missed out on a decent storm this evening that hit the south and west part of the county down near MRX. Looks like they picked up around an inch there. Only 0.04 here for me in Russellville.
  3. Welcome! I live here in Hamblen Co. as well. We have a good group here but not many posters from Hamblen Co. Great to have you on here. I see the red tag, are you a met at MRX?
  4. 37° this morning at the house with patches of frost around! I knew when it was already 45 by 11 last night that it was probably going to be in the 30’s this morning. The wind died completely down and the dry airmass did the rest. This is just 2 days shy of the latest frost I’ve ever seen, and that was years ago. Really impressed with the cold this month, it’s been something else!
  5. Wow, at the last minute, a frost advisory was extended for one more row of counties south of what MRX had, which put my area in it as well. I figured there would probably be some frost, but I see it was MRX being their conservative selves. Anyway, sure enough, when I stepped outside, there is frost here in the low areas behind the house. Temp is 37 on my station.
  6. Well would ya look at that. MRX had to pull out the ol frost advisory for Northeast TN, the plateau, and SW VA. They had been acknowledging that they might have to issue one. It’s a conversation that probably belongs in banter to a degree, but there’s no mistaking this airmass. It’s quite cool out there today!
  7. I was surprised at the rain we had here this evening. Decent little storm with thunder and lightning. Picked up around .20, although I know some areas got more.
  8. How is TRI doing with this? I haven’t seen many reports from up that way?
  9. It’s picked back up here again in the last 30min. Quarter sized flakes mixing in at times but also some graupel as well.
  10. Winding down here now. Have around 1/2in it has been a nice treat to finish off the season
  11. Beginning to look like that here in Morristown now too. Rooftops and cars are covered and the grass is getting white as well. Would estimate 1/4-1/2in here too
  12. Pouring snow here in Morristown with a heavy dusting.
  13. Absolutely hammering in Morristown at the moment!
  14. Starting to see flakes mix in here in Morristown.
  15. I’m so sorry to hear that Daniel Boone! I will pray for you and your family.
  16. Had a rain/snow mix this morning here as well. It will be cold tonight, but looks like it’ll be even colder next Tues morning if that airmass verifies. Looks like some lows well down into the 20’s with that and some snow flurries/showers around as well.
  17. That’s how it was here too but tonight, it’s crazy all of the severe weather (hail primarily) they have had in N MS, N AL, and NW GA. There is even a severe Tstorm right now headed straight for Chattanooga if it holds together. Kind of appears to be weakening at the moment.
  18. Just finished the district basketball tournament here at Mtown East. The East high girls defeated Science Hill at East for the district championship, yay Lady Canes! Walked outside, and yep, it’s snowing again here too and trying to lay down another dusting.
  19. Really none of the models did well at all with the snow here last night and today. The rgem, NAM, hrrr, globals, etc. this time they were horrible. Reading the comments from the NY forum, they were disappointed in the RGEM. It did pretty bad there too. It’s still a good model, but even good models have their weaknesses I guess. This storm was one of them.
  20. Ended up with about 1/3in in grass and wood surfaces but the roads also caved a little this morning. Several school districts are out today. It’s still snowing pretty well in town right now as I type this.
  21. Somehow this one band came back here! Man I’m shocked! I really don’t hardly ever do this well in NW flow but then again there’s hardly ever a Nor’easter of this magnitude to the NE helping pull down cold air and moisture from the Great Lakes like this. Approaching a quarter inch on the car and grass!
  22. Just got under a heavy snow shower! The heaviest of today. It lasted about 10min and produced a nice dusting and would have been even more if it could have just held on a little longer. Temp down to 24 now after that.
  23. Have had flurries and even a snow shower or two this afternoon. The temp really dropped after about 3:30. Currently 27.
  24. Well I just woke up to a lightning bolt and rumble of thunder with this heavy line moving through! Activate TIMS and start the clock! I think this is one of the longest periods I’ve ever been through where there has not been thunder and lightning. I couldn’t tell you the last time we had it. Would have to have been late summer or early Fall. I know there are far less storms over here in E TN than middle or West TN-when I lived in Memphis and N MS we had thunderstorms year round almost every year. I’ve learned that is not the case here, but this has been long even for here!
  25. It was unreal cars and trucks in people’s yards completely covered over by snow! The crazy thing was they tried to keep the resort open as long as they could by shutting down the top of the mountain and allowing mid and lower elevation skiing, but even that got shut down early and was closed the next day. Had to wait a couple days to be able to get back on the slopes. Fortunately for me it was Spring Break and I had the whole week! I did get a refund for the days they were shut down, so that was good! That was my first experience with thundersnow. It was literally snowing so hard on the lift rides up you would have over an inch of snow on your jackets or the seats by the time you would reach the dismount! They closed it shortly thereafter this and I have to believe it was probably close to 6in per hour rates. The ride on the lift was only around around 10min or so.
