  1. Dropped to 11 here in the South River watershed forest. All of the tributaries and associated wetlands are frozen solid up here in the watershed along 450. It will soften up tomorrow and Saturday before the big ice forms next week. It's been an epic winter so far here in the lowlands. I'm about 5" from reaching climo with plenty of opportunities to exceed it coming up.
  2. Surprised to see it's 12.
  3. Yup. Same here. When I walked out this morning I had a feeling today would be a cold, beautiful day. It was.
  4. Yesterday I went down to OC and walked the entire length of OC on the beach. 10 miles. The beach was covered in snow where the ocean doesn't make it. Today I hiked here locally. The trails at Bacon Ridge were a sheet of ice. The packed snow became thick ice. The temperature today stayed around 30 which made it nice.
  5. And probably time to separate out the weekend thing and give it a thread.
  6. What do you think about it looking like a quick shot? I see 40's dominating my LR forecast.
  7. My point and click is 34. I'm betting close to 40 if it stays clear. I've been constantly +3-4 above forecast for the past couple of weeks. It's been beautiful but definitely not anything unusual.
  8. It's like two days below normal before the 40's return. Not impressed lol
  9. The main player over the next 10 days honestly looks like the drought. I'm glad I got what I got when I got it.
  10. Gfs looks like an improvement. It gives us a little snow this weekend. It now fringes the area with the historic southern blizzard. Looks better for the lowlands atm.
  11. Snow melting makes us grumpy. I didn't go hiking today because I didn't want to see the melting going on. I'll go tomorrow lol. I've still got 97% coverage here. Only a couple steep south facing hills melted off.
  12. I was susposed to below freezing for like 10 days. I think i stayed 31-32 once or twice. Most days torched to 35 and drip drip. These ridiculous cold looks are nonsense.
  13. I remember about 12 days ago our current "cold pattern" was showing temps in south Florida in the mid 20's and daytime highs here in the mid teens. None of that came close to happening. IMHO the models are way overdoing the cold and the suppression looks.
  14. It's torching but hopefully these clouds stick around to and help preserve the snowpack.
  15. Another stunning deep winter morning here in the lowlands. The snowpack is still in good shape. Today it will take another beating and I'm sure south facing hills will have grass showing by this evening but it looks like another week with snowpack. Long range is a snoozer so hopefully the cold materializes this time.
  16. 12" on the season as of today. I received an inch in about 15 minutes from the thundersnow storm. I received 9.5" from the storm on the 6th of January. I received 1.5" of snow from the Little Weekend Thing. After a few more MECS and the final boss in Feb, I hope to rival 2010 lol
  17. 23 in my yard on this glorious winter morning. Yesterday morning I did a 5 mile hike. I started at daybreak and was done about 10:30. It was bordering on magical level 10. This past week has cemented a "great winter" in my book regardless of what happens from here on out. I'm 5" from climo.
  18. But when I looked at my point and click 10 day I definitely don't see any overwhelming cold. I guess overwhelming high pressure is the culprit.
  19. Clouds are increasing here and it's 31. The snowpack here is thick and heavy. It will shrink down but should be fine until the cold returns.
  20. I haven't measured but it looks like 1.5-2". It's beautiful. The trees are covered and the snowpack looks fresh and clean. I'm headed out to get some pictures and get a hike in .
  21. Absolutely beautiful out there. Just about an inch and still snowing. Snow on snow on snow in parts of my yard. This is my third snow event in a row without any rain. Great season shaping up here in the lowlands.
  22. Honestly I didn't think I'd see rates anywhere close to i have in these bands. It looks like a snowstorm out here. Looks like at least a half inch.
  23. I'm starting to get that snow fog look. Everything caving
