I would say the three stations that people have mentioned here are the best "enthusiast" stations. If you want"Pro" then it's hard to beat the Davis Vantage Pro 2 with Aspirated Shield, but most people aren't looking to drop $1500 on a weather station. I would add to the conversation that the place you plan on putting the station also factors in which one you want. Have a small space or trees overhead? Go with the tempest or WS-5000, you won't have wind or rain anyway. Have more room and have a good catchment area for rain? Definitely go with a full tipping bucket rather than an acoustic. I will say that if you don't like the Davis Vue (understandable) then going with the Ambient but customizing it so that you get the 5000 series console. The 5000 series console allows additional sensors such as soil moisture and air quality if you want it.

it will be a week before things settle down out there. fishing is done for the year; you get a storm like this in the fall, the fish skedaddle offshore. might bring the striped bass in early though.
