Looks like we should all move to Chester County to escape the inferno. .

Here's where I think the issue lies. The graph is based on where the collapsing rock/glacier hit the valley (around 4,300 meters above sea level). The bedrock, glacier was about 5,200 meters. So, the graph is correct in that the region has been warming, but it is not the mean temperature of the actual glacier. Nevertheless, preceding the collapse, temperatures had reached 90° or above in Kathmandu. At standard lapse rates, that would suggest readings in the middle 40s at the altitude of the glacier. During the June 1-August 25 period, Kathmandu had 77 days with highs of 80° or above. At standard lapse rates, that would amount to highs of 35° or above at 5,200 meters. So, at least using the standard lapse rates and Kathmandu's data, most of the summer days saw at least some melting where the collapse took place.

The temperature chart is consistent with the pictures of the collapse site, posted above, which show evidence of both short and long-term melting. The glacier itself is a remnant of a much larger glacier. The info I posted above also shows that local glacier losses have accelerated since 2000. I don't see evidence that the cooler and distant Everest site is relevant.

That give's me a dreadful feeling. We are about 40 years ahead of schedule. .

Earliest T recorded was 9/12/1923. I did see flakes in the air once in late Sept back in the early 90's. Was working at the sawmill after I returned home from my Army service. Cold air moved in with those popcorn showers, and snow was mixing in with the precip. The mill was located inland near the airport. EDIT: Just remembered, T values may be hail. Any frozen type precip is put in the snow column.

I’m not disagreeing with you because I’m, myself, quite suspicious about the 1/15/22 Hunga-Tonga causing that delayed temp spike earlier in ‘23 than what the ‘23 El Niño should have caused. But if you were to post that in the CC forum, you’d get a lot of opposition or at least doubt based on past Hunga-Tonga discussions in there. Several folks there have downplayed it because they think the warming effect was minimal/far lower than that early ‘23 temp spike.

Good advice I'm general, but the CANSIPS cold bias is fact. Having it do fairly well last year doesn't disprove that....no bias is absolute. This year is the type of season where would likely to too cold.

I mean today could not have been anymore less Coc k if you tried . If we had dews and heat you’d be able to get outside and maybe dodge an afternoon downpour. Today is totally ruined even if sun comes out later

Cosgrove sure has an interesting take...heh. Seems to be going with a CANSIPS type outcome with massive AK/western Canadian and CONUS ridging. Big -EPO/PNA.

Going to have to go through more heat probably until October.
