I know why we failed: we believed in snow maps actually showing snow in the NC foothills. That should have been the first red flag models were out to lunch

If this holds this is going to be a huge hit to the weather industry in terms of the social media group. Local Mets have been banging the drum against them for a while. This might be if not the death blow a big shot to the attention they get

I do worry like heck about icing. Sometimes I think yall like to cliff jump and melt on the floors just so when things wobble back some, you get a high and rejoice.

It still looks like the most impactful winter storm since 2018. Maybe worst ice storm since 2022. Snow is fun. Ice isn’t. Hope people following on here realize that the cliff dive here isn’t bc the storm is going away. It’s because most on here are staring down the barrel of a crippling ice storm. Mets will absolutely not get dinged for ringing the bell of a major storm coming that in all likelihood will cause much worse impacts than if it had stayed mostly snow

Exactly, I ordered a chainsaw on Monday and a snow shovel. I might need the back surgery too after I cut up all these damn trees.

I'm wavering on going out and getting a generator this evening.  We just bought a house in Fayetteville (GA not NC) a couple weeks ago and I'd planned to eventually get a transfer switch setup installed over the summer (and maybe even a tri-fuel generator to run off natural gas).  Wasn't planning on staring down the barrel of an ice storm this quickly.  Need to go ahead and get the grill hooked up so at least we could cook something if needed.

Part of me hopes that living near a hospital and a data center means our power would be back on pretty quickly but that's wishing...  got spoiled by our old house outside Savannah; even during hurricanes and the 2025 snowsleetice storm we somehow never lost power.

Nevertheless I'm pulling for this thing to just keep moving north (sorry NC folks).  Give me rain if I can't have either snow or sunny and warm.

Lets be honest though, the thrill factor with the kiddos just went from a solid 6.8 with just snow sledding to a 9.1 with an ice pack on top.  This is the difference between a minor bump or bruise falling off the sled and becoming a human missile capable of shattering mailbox posts.  ZR on top of IP on top of SN is about the best setup you could ask for in terms of fast sledding.  It packs perfectly.

I know the exact timing of the storm is unknown however would like your thoughts. My sister is flying into RDU Saturday night, landing at 10:30pm. I’m scared flights will be grounded so do you think she should get an earlier flight or do you think the heavier precip will not be here in time to affect the runways?

Stebany,  Air travel will be completely crippled, I.E. completely stopped by an ice event such as this. Anywhere there is ice like we currently see forecast we basically cannot fly. De-icing fails in these types of conditions so expect massive cancellations for airports in the path of any sleet/Ice event. Its likely going to impact RDU/CLT/ATL and a bunch of other airports. Its possible that she will make it in, but most airlines will severely thin/cut operations into places where the aircraft and crews might get stuck. I'd also expect huge delays after the event for Delta as ATL being the main hub is going to be severely impacted. Takes days to put crews and aircraft back into the schedule with these types of disruption.

 Bottom line, doesnt mean she wont make it, but the odds are probably not good. If she has the option to go earlier in the day I'd do it.

If she can come earlier, the better it will be. All travel will be backing up as it starts to our west

Im gonna call it, very low probability of a severe ice event where we are, south of ATL. Really looking like a nice pretty glaze. I dont think we will be cold enough at the lower levels long enough to get much accumulation at all here. Im not saying storm cancel, but Im gonna stick with this. Typical climo here supports it too.
