Hello everyone! I’m reporting from the Interior NW & NE Burbs Consulate in Cobble Hill Brooklyn, otherwise known as the postage stamp. The first photo ( at my old man’s snow stick) ) was taken at 11am. The second at around 4 pm after several hours of sleet. The third is my daughter who asked me to send her photo to the forum.members I’m fond of and always talk about. As always …..

Last measurement for the night 15.8 inches. 42.1 inches now for the season, by morning I may have reached the seasonal normal.

Got the driveway all cleared, mailbox has pretty much disappeared, as has the fire hydrant at the end of my property. I will deal with those in the morning.

Never got above 9° today. Other than the Blizzard of 96 I can't think of another storm with this much snow at single digit temperatures. It's restored my faith in Winter.

Ended up with around 13.0" in my part of the Poconos as light snow continues. Although, measuring has been hell as I had 35 to 40mph wind gust out here above 2k most of the day. It looks like a general 12.0" to 15.0" being reported out here in the Poconos overall looking at obs.  Total ground snow depth from existing snow pack and this storm, now 16.0" to 17.0 in most spots". Seasonal total to date right around 49.0". Could turn out to be an average winter for once, haha. In all honesty, I had horrible snow growth/rates after mid morning, very fine and small flakes. I thought for sure 20.0" was in reach once I saw the sleet would stay well south earlier today. It is what it is though. I will say this, this was one of, if not the coldest event i've ever seen. Temp hung out right around 2 to 3 degrees all day. It's since shot up to a balmy 10.  All in all, this was a great event regardless. Especially considering days ago we thought this possibly was hitting well to the south and possibly grazing us. It for sure feels like deep winter out there.

Snow in the back is too deep and the dog refused to go out so we got dressed, I shoveled a new path to the lower driveway and we went for a walk. I didn't get the bottom half because this stuff is stupid dense and the plow went by twice :( I got another 4" or so bringing me over 20". At 12:30 it was still precipitating some form of frozen grains at 14° helping this stuff to firm up even more. Yuck

13.1” on the board. Had I cleared the board the old way or measured the deck each time I shoveled and added that up it would’ve been at least 18” I’m guessing. I chuckle reading the snow reports with some of the discrepancies between trained spotter and public reports. I also wonder how many public measured in their yard and forgot there was already snow on the ground. Anyway, the snow was more dense than I had expected, I’ll grab a core sample from the board to see how much liquid it was. A dense solid snow pack out there, 16” at the stake 16/13 with an occasional flurry.

Yeah my difference would probably have been more like 7" as it flipped between precip types if my board hadn't been blown nearly clean by a gusty 30 seconds. Gotta find a better spot but it's hard because that's the only one not ringed by tall trees. I'm good calling it at 20+ because that's what fell but if I left it untouched until the snow ended it would likely be down around 13-14.

16” last night, on the board i dont clear im just a hair under 18” of snowpack (that obviously varies throughout my yard). I think had i cleared before the couple hours of sleet i woulda had 17 last night.

Just picked up another half inch of fluff, bringing my storm total to 14.6". The sun is shining through now and really making everything glisten.

43.9" on the season now. Hopefully the road to 100 comes into clearer view next weekend

Melted down to 1.45" for a meaty 10:1

I didn’t even get that good a ratio, the core from the board which had 13.1” on it melted down to 1.80”. It started out at much better ratios as the snow was fluffy but it changed during the storm. It also shows it was compacting under its own weight on the board for 24 hours. Again, shoveling felt much more like 18”, which also makes more sense now.

Did you get any sleet? I woke up to a nice crust of pellets glued together with some freezing drizzle.

I definitely had freezing drizzle this morning. I didn’t hear any sleet but if you got pellets up there it’s hard to imagine I didn’t have some too. It’s a meaty pack kinda like baking soda out there.
