UnionCountyNCWX
Got a nice downpour in CLT just a bit ago and now the sun is back out. Maybe that'll add some instability and get some heavier storms this evening and keep the rain flowing.
NorthHillsWx
Picked up 0.14” from a pretty decent band of showers I wasn’t really expecting this afternoon. Good start

I hope they’re wrong but drought breeds drought. I’m happy for folks in SC and Georgia though. They need it just as bad as we do in NC. Well. In the CAMs I trust I guess. Keep in mind that the heavy rains covering much of the SE US since yesterday are of course not taken into account since these weekly maps are based on data being submitted no later than 8AM two days ago. Only the N 1/2 of AL showed improvement.

I expect only minor changes to the drought map after this event. We still need a lot of rain for meaningful changes.

Although not for all areas, of course, I feel that next week’s map may show notable improvement (say at least one drought category) in portions of the SE. Besides the current system, there’s more waiting in the wings for much of the SE Sat-Mon, especially S areas! The N 1/2 of AL was the only area on the SE drought map that showed notable improvement.
BooneWX
Locally speaking, and truly locally, some of yall won big, but the Catawba River basin desperately needs to score soon. That impacts a lot of ag and water supplies from Lake James all the way down to the low country. I’ve never seen lake hickory this low (granted I wasn’t living here in 2007). Lake James —> Lake Rhodhiss —> Lake Hickory —> Lake Norman —-> Lake Wylie —> Wateree to Marion and out to sea at Charleston. This watershed supplies millions. GaWx
My local area has received only very light rain so far (couple of hundredths at most) today. However, there’s supposedly the bulk of it to come.
bckhd2
I expect north GA to be doing a little better next week. It looks like we held steady this week, which is a good sign. I would say we got maybe an inch or a little less with the storms that came through last night, and hopefully more this weekend. Of course, after one of the driest springs I can remember, our rec baseball league released the playoff schedules and the All-Star rosters this week, meaning we'll have 6-10 teams on the field any given night now through July 1, and the 10-day forecast immediately populated with more rain than I've seen since December. Go figure. I'll take the rain, though. We can sure use it. It's still going to take an awful lot of rain to put any kind of real dent in the drought. NorthHillsWx
We’re not going to break 3/4” here so today’s rain while helpful will not get near close enough to alleviate the drought. Realistically we need what we got today twice a week to get back on track

gman
It looks like at least another couple of weeks before we get any measurable rain. The winds are already drying things out. I pray it is not a long, hot and dry summer. I cannot afford another water bill like I had for April!

BooneWX
Thursdays drought monitor will be interesting. I’d expect some marginal improvement along and south of I-85 but I’d say the foothills to the piedmont and southern VA are all about to be in an exceptional drought.

For NC piedmont and foothills it’s a matter of when not if we slip into exceptional drought. Long range looks dry and hot and obviously we missed most of the rain from last couple weeks. 1
