I do love October storms like this. Definitely going to sleep tonight with an open window so I can wake up the breezy heavy rain bands. The only thing better would to have winds Friday at the same time as the rains. I have multiple family members in Massachusetts and have had the pleasure of experiencing big noreasters in Gloucester, South Shore, and central Highlands. Only rainstorms unfortunately but man oh man. Having 40+mph sustained winds for 36 hours in a house a few miles from the ocean was beautiful. You could taste the ocean on that northeast wind. Combined with torrential rain, the sounds that a house from the 1850's makes in a storm like that, a big fireplace, good hearty soup, rye whiskey, and a home bar with 3 taps had me wanting never to leave. I wish we could experience more of the rain/wind combo here at least.

We continue our stretch of chillier than normal weather with our 9th straight day with below normal temperatures. The beneficial rainstorm is still on track to arrive overnight tonight and continue well into tomorrow night. The NWS has much of the area receiving 1.5" to 2.0" of needed rain. Tomorrow looks to be the warmest day of the week with temperatures maybe a couple of degrees above average with highs well up into the 50's to near 60 degrees. We turn chillier again over the weekend but dry.image.png.c11a3c32d32876c2f838b4d719966c19.pngimage.thumb.png.5ae8a2a43e7bd8e923d8d92f335268c2.png

Boy to you have a way with words.  Almost caught myself snuggled up (on opposite end of the couch - of course)

I'd be close to the home bar as well, and before i read this, I was thinkin what kind of soup do i want to make?  Get firewood in and ready.

smart minds.....

That trip was a fisherman's stew with fresh seafood from Turners Seafood Market. My uncle had drafts of Stella, some new England IPA, and Guinness (full nitrous setup!). My brother and I brought Oban and Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye Others brought appetizers, wine, beer, etc. it was Wednesday November 7, 2012. We were up that week to help out other family in Connecticut recovery from Sandy and on a whim my aunt and uncle had everyone over that was up helping that week. Everyone, all 16 of us, soon abandoned any pretense of traveling the few hours back and we went hard till midnight we all slept on the floor with blankets, sleeping bags, pillows, 3 dogs, 2 cats, a roaring fire, and storm shaking the house hard. One of those amazing nights that edge in ones memory since it seemed preordained with how it came together.

I have questions regarding this 3 hour flash flood guidance. The demarcation seems very close to the river basins. Are The drastic differences caused purely by recent rainfall amounts, or is the basin itself playing some role?t_state__state_PA__hour_3__ilabel_yes__dpi_100.jpg

Today not only be is that amazing 2011 snowstorm with thunder snow and Cantore down the street from us but also Sandy hitting our region in 2012.
Ah.....the good old days when interesting weather happened to us......when a storm like tomorrow is just a nothing-burger instead of the only hope for something a bit more interesting than the absolutely boring string of wearher

Currently 3/5 the way through a wonderful 5 mile jaunt. I can almost smell that rain with every uptick of a slowly building breeze. These showers are hauling ass and seem to hit with a nice gust front. Hopefully that is a good omen for the morning bands. A nice firehouse from the Atlantic or Chesapeake would hit like a lottery jackpot this year.

Radar looks great for a really beneficial long rain event
I appreciate this so much more after our July, August, September. I laugh at my naivete back in 2019-2020 thinking the previous decade of insane moisture would not abate. The short term models show a beautiful band from ocean city Maryland to here combining with a more north south orientation band causing a nice blowup of intensity around rush hour
