It's pouring right now at 22° here in Ashland-I wonder if harder rain makes it tougher for accretion. Does anyone know?

I just read that it actually is tougher if it's raining more than moderately that a long duration event is more effective to cause issues which I hope this is true

There are different thoughts on this. It accretes more efficiently at a lower rate but actual accretions may be similar.

The precip ahead of it seems to have beefed up a bit too, which I don’t like.

The crust is nice and shiny though!

Down here in Currituck NC. 33/31. TEMPS been steadily going down. Areas just north and West of me by just a few miles are 32 or below already. There's a chance this next batch of rain brings the temperatures up if it's heavy enough but it's getting a little sketchy. No ADVISORY but may be needed.

I think North Chesterfield has dodged the worst of this storm. Som glazing, but npthing like forecasted. I don't expect a lot of outages here at this point

Literally was about to say that. If we’re in the jackpot right now, another ice storm is coming in a week. Any weather but pure snow is virtually a guarantee in central and eastern VA.

I think suppression or an OTS track is more likely. We likely have a very strong -NAO and a +PNA ridge centered in the interior west. Seems very different from this week.

Next “potential” storm should  be a more coastal Miller A.  Not some hybrid overrunning storm that cuts in OH.
