famartin
That was in reference to the OBS discussion for tonight/tomorrow (even though it's a non-event), the one that is usually up to date active and shows rather clearly where there is more forum member participation. I didn't start the obs thread over there.
svh19044
I didn't start the obs thread over there. My apologies. Same thread topic. Same point proven. And I really hope this isn't taken as a dig at the other site (or sites), but it just so happens to be that this site is one of the larger and more active sites overall. I think that smaller forums are a great idea, but mostly because larger sites fail to address those smaller areas of interest in detail. That is why I enjoyed browsing this forum so much, because it was (and still is) a great forum for the Philadelphia region.

Jan 2005 for example.
RevWarReenactor
Being from Delaware I think this section is necessary, its just dead. famartin
Here are the "climate" differences between PHL and NYC Temps: About 1 degree annually on average Precip: About 8 inches annually (though oddly, LGA and NYC differ by over 5 inches annually, with LGA being much closer to PHL... a rather odd difference given the 4 mile distance between them) Snow: About 5 inches annually These differences are minor. Animal
My vote is still to keep them separate. Agree. I post in both. NYC I started a NW thread, but only because the weenie pool in beyond deep. I respect a few posters that post in the NYC thread, but believe that PHL needs their own location due to the following & ownership. 1) Mt Holly NWS region 2) Weather is too different 3) I like the mellow vibe in here

Who cares, Mt. Holly covers Cape May and High Point? 2. See 1 (and Ray's post) 3. Well, before they close this forum you can take a screen shot and pretend to post, it will have the same effect. wxman
Yes. just go away please. I see you are from NJ, go figure. You most likely enjoy the morons in the NYC portal. Why do this? For me it's all about weather discussion. More posters make a better forum. Surely that will also increase the number of problem posters but the solution is not to limit a forum to one's own backyard. Just my opinion, I suppose people will vote with their feet (or fingers in this case).

For now, enjoy the snow. Rib, Given we will be 2 people down for this winter season (more than 3 people down operationally the rest of this year), it does save time with pns(s) to not have to page through out of CWA observations. I realize we lose some of Delmarva and northern NJ with this, but most of those post in both or at least e-mail us or use our facebook threads. This is pretty much the reason I am opposed to joining the geographical areas.

I realize we lose some of Delmarva and northern NJ with this, but most of those post in both or at least e-mail us or use our facebook threads. This is pretty much the reason I am opposed to joining the geographical areas. This is a fair point...but the solution IMHO is to have obs threads by CWA, it definitely doesn't work that way now even with the separate forums. Its a mish mash at best, I think the northern NJ posters (Morris, Somerset, Sussex, Hunterdon Middlesex) are mainly in the NYC forum or duplicate posts in both. So, if having CWA obs helps you guys I'm sure people will accommodate the request. For the most part, however, the discussion about everything but the real short range (in some instances) has application to both NYC and PHL and the more posters the more vibrant the forum...yes the law of numbers means there will also be more nonsense posts, but it's easier to skip them than to jump from forum to forum, at least IMO. mookiemike
First, I find this topic amusing on levels that most here would not understand. I am Philly, born and bred, but back here only three years, after the preceding 14, working and living in NYC. The problem is the personality clash between a New Yorker and Philadelphian, drawn down at it's most basic, to arguing over bragging rights on a storm. My last year in NYC, was Philly's record 80" , which I missed out completely on, though NYC got hit a few times too. But the whining from weather weenies over Philly got more, was tiring.Since I moved back here, NYC seems to have hit the jackpot, but Sandy was no picnic. There are some great posters over there, and as moderator, "Earthlight" was great at running a disciplined board. There were weenies who bemoaned near misses, while in Philly's record 2009 year, I watched in amazement a coastal that dumped 18" plus on Philly, and then literally stalled in it's place, halfway to NYC, by the PV. It finally pushed it out to sea.... 90 miles, and the snow got to within 40 miles of Brooklyn.....I did learn much about their BM position, and the differences between Philly's good fortune to be further from the moderating effects of the Ocean parked next door to NYC ( NYC is not Boston ), and their benefit from being closer to the arctic highs sagging down. So, I say if it isn't broken, don't fix it. Two forums, separate, but equal, may sound bad Constitutionally, but certainly better, in a meteorological sense. Violentweatherfan
I post over in the other forum because that's where the action is. Your comprehension failure is beyond words. Ray, there are four maybe five posters in the other forum having conversations between themselves. I don't think that is highly active. During the last clipper this forum had more activity than the Philly wx. Additionally, that forum is poorly laid out and difficult to navigate through, not I do not see success in theit distant future.....
