Low Topped Squall line/Banger obs

Damage In Tolland

Recommended Posts

The exciting time of year that September always is may not disappoint ,as we have the potential for some decent storms overnight and one of Wiz's favorite things..A low topped squall line

ONE OTHER NOTE IS THAT THIS PATTERN DOES SUGGEST THE POSSIBLE
FORMATION OF A FINE LOW-TOPPED CONVECTIVE LINE WHICH MAY CLOSELY
FOLLOW THE FRONT. SHOULD THIS BE THE CASE...WILL ALSO NEED TO
MONITOR FOR GUSTY WINDS ASSOCIATED WITH THE 40KT JET DURING THE
EARLY-MID MORNING HOURS AS THE FRONT MOVES THROUGH

you obviously don't given winds, right now, are stronger in Buffalo where it's not raining than they are in Scranton.

The strongest winds with low-topped lines usually occur out ahead of the rain shield.  It isn't completely uncommon though to get winds behind the front which are stronger with CAA though than with the line itself.

Velocity data shows some fairly strong winds just above the surface out this way so if we can maintain or develop any stronger convective elements some gust to near 50-55 mph could be possible.
