I heard that Josh went out to Abaco. The storm is now nearly stationary. Does anyone know if Josh is okay? Is he still under heavy winds/tides/surge from Dorian? If so, this is an extremely serious and grave situation. Lots of prayers going out to Josh for his safety.

You sound like the Higgins Lake version of Josh. 2013-2014 was the best winter of my lifetime and it's not even close. Only Feb 2015 was colder.

Hey Josh. I'm doing well. Thanks for asking. I keep think you're gonna post one day and say you've moved to the Tug or something, but after so many years in Gaylord, you may be done with snow and cold. haha I think the last real good winters in N lower were the two years I lived there, 2012-13 and 2013-14. I can remember it snowing in Ellsworth to some degree for two weeks straight one of those years. Hope the last month or so of winter can deliver for ya, although this late in the season, the excitement does dwindle.

Dtw big dog (18+) curse continues. That last storm that delivered the goods to Toronto/Cleveland found a way to literally track/detour around us and now this time around we're gonna be stuck in between the goods. After all these years it doesn't really surprise me or disappoint me anymore but I can't help but laugh how Detroit found a way to miss out on 2 straight potential big dogs in a matter of weeks. Cue the "oh the models are still showing 8-12. That's gonna be highly dependent on banding and we all know how unpredictable that is. Detroits gonna have to get lucky to get 8 " out of this which Josh will be thrilled about but at this point it's big dog or nothing for me. Good luck to all those in line to get historic snows and enjoy it!

Ive had this discussion with Josh more times than the lions have losses the past 20 years. Dont waste your time lol. You wont get him to admit we suck at big dogs.

I completely understand why you sold the sleds Josh, the past few winters in the lower have really been sub par at best. There’s definitely been some good stretches with deep snow and enough cold to maintain the snow but them stretches have really been short lived. My brother n law and I started looking for acreage in the UP this past summer that we can build a “barndominium” on and ride and hunt out of. Not 100% sure where yet but we would like to keep it within 2 hours of the bridge at the most and along 28 or north. We have a bunch of friends that have places in Lakes of the north and even they have had to trailer to Newberry quite a few times the past couple years to get decent riding and normally if you’re area doesn’t have snow nobody in the lower does.

A narrative about the Chiefs being underachievers might begin to take shape here. Four consecutive AFC championship games, only one Super Bowl title to show for it. Credit to the Bengals for hanging in there but that’s a terrible loss for Kansas City. They should have more opportunities with Mahomes being so young but there are no guarantees. Russell Wilson and the Seahawks reached back to back Super Bowls and then never returned. A lot has to go right to reach the summit. Plus, the competition in the AFC is only getting stiffer. Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson, Derek Carr to a lesser extent. These guys will be around for awhile and will only get better. -
When the storm hit I was 7. Josh and I are specifically talking about the snow totals. I totally understand the storm was epic but for Detroit area snow totals were anything but epic. We have had much biggest snow totals.

I was thinking about Josh if we somehow got >24" from this system this coming week. Many people in Detroit would still think 1978 had more there 1978 storm was an epic storm for surrounding areas but for Detroiters it is a legend in their own mind

GHD Il? I know I cracked that as did Josh? The hard to crack number here is 24 which hasn't been done since 78. 67 was the other which was as someone else noted basically a qpf bomb and thus why such widespread 18+ amounts from IL to MI which is rare in this part of the world and the only reason I don't totally discount the GFS. Chances are slim of that sort of thing but not zero.

Hi Josh. Long time. I lived in Utica at the time of the Blizzard of '78. This storm was very disappointing as a kid for many as I remember like it was yesterday. The winter storm watch was issued and it was scrolled across the TV during the TV broadcast of Star Wars (it scrolled during Mos Eisley Cantina scene). We were expecting 18"+ in the northern burbs. Got 10" with some rain and UCS system still had classes except one school had power problems like due to the winds. My mom gave me a personal snow day!! Because of the regional impact it was talked about for days on the news. During the 70s (early 80s) most people in the northern burbs have memories of some major 16"+ storms (I sure do). Funny thing is I am willing to bet that most people are mixing up storms (thinking it was the Blizzard of '78 but it was really one of the other major storms that impacted them). If we had these forums and models we have today, I bet the meltdown from the Detroit crew would be huge (the kuchera totals SE MI model output would have been like 24-36" and results would have been 8-10" with rain mixed in).
