  1. I made that same call couple days ago. Wasn't what I WANTED to make, but couldn't see if (snow) getting any further north. Still snowing here, just looked out the front door of the building. 1-3 inch rates since 3 pm when we had 11! I'm gonna take a guess at 14-15, but once home I'll report.
  2. WOW! Man, you and I aren't 40 miles apart as the crow flies. I am at work, just off Low Moor exit on I-64 and although NOT scientific, stuck tape measure in 4 different spots and got 10-11 inches each time. about 5 minutes ago.
  3. That is one heck of a band from Martinsville to Wytheville and heading north....... Saw a couple 3in/hr rate reports out of northern NC counties when it went thru on NWS Blacksburg's snow report.
  4. From what I am seeing on radar vs traffic cams and what happened at the house this am, just before greens arrive the snow overcomes the dry air and starts to fall.
  5. OK, snow started falling here about 5:30 am, about 90 minutes head of the modeled advance. Hopefully that is a good sign for further north that it is coming in a bit faster and eroding the dry air quicker.
  6. I see a SMALL jog north potential, but the I-66 corridor might as well be the Great Wall of China. Bummer there isn't a better escape route/retreating H so the storm could make even a small curve north.
  7. Pepperidge Farms remembers.....
  8. Well.......what fell the previous 6 or 7 times in Nov didn't add up enough to measure lol. "T" city! Hey, it is a 12/5 snow!
  9. Picked up an inch of snow overnight. Still have some flurries flying and 30.8/26.6 currently.
  10. DCA: -3.1 NYC: -2.8 BOS: -2.9 ORD: -2.7 ATL: -1.4 IAH: -0.4 DEN: -2.1 PHX: +1.1 SEA: +1.9
  11. Light rain and 37.3/35.0 this morning.
  12. In for a few and a bite to eat, been working (AGAIN) on the leaves in the yard. Finally warmed above freezing at 10:45, went 65 hours below freezing, pretty impressive for November. Currently 37.8/20.2 and it has clouded back over in last 15 minutes.
  13. Missed the record, bottomed out at 18.6 about 3 am, then it climbed a degree or two. Still a HUGE miss by NWS (25). Currently 19.9/15.6
  14. Thanks for that info! I wasn't that high today, the trail head is about 2400, I topped out just short of 3000. That was enough, 4 in and 4 back, since I didn't get started until 2 pm and dark hits about 5:30.
  15. I didn't have shorts on, but I did go and walk/hike 4 miles of Allegheny Trail on the WV/VA border from the Exit 1 Jerry's Run area and north. About an inch of snow and mid 20's with W winds at 10-20 mph....perfect day. One week I'm gonna spend some time and hike as much as I can get. If memory serves right it goes up to the PA state line. I did the 77 miles of Greenbrier Trail couple years ago in sections up and back, so 154 miles in a week but that is old RR grade and basically flat.
  16. Even colder today, the high was 27.8 degrees around 3:50 pm, been dropping like a rock since and currently 19.7/12.2 with a W wind at 8 mph. WC is 9.8 degrees. Wind really backed off last couple of hours and the skies are partly cloudy....we already busted on the low (forecasted 25) and if it stays like this I can see 13-14 possible. The 27.8 will shatter the record 'cool max' for in the am, 33.7 from 2014. The record low for date is 17 from 1996, I think that is in play. Been below freezing now for 50 + hours.
  17. Just enough snow in places to call it a T here at the house, but the mountains are beautiful! 20.6/13.3 with a WNW wind of 10/G26 making a 9.6 WC. So, yesterday I never crossed freezing, 31.8 for a high. New record 'cool max' for the date, beating 2013's 34.9 degree reading. A great prelude to winter, stayed cloudy and flurried all through the day and night with strong WNW/NW winds 15-35 mph.
  18. Wonderful day. Just back in from walking/hiking Bear Loop up near airport. Low/mid 20's with clouds and flurries and W/WNW winds at 20+ gusting to 40 mph. WC's in single digits
  19. Son is living that life now. I get to live it thru his texts lol. EDIT- I can verify the 'above 13K' thing. I've done 2 '14'ners' in the summer with him, a HUGE difference once you cross that. Can only imagine adding trudging through snow. We tried to make it up the back side of Arapahoe once in May 2015 or 2016? with still 30-40 inches of snow on the ground.
  20. Looks like I'm gonna battle the sleet/ice monster for 2nd time in a week or so.......forecast has up to 1/2 inch sleet and .1-.2 inch freezing rain. That'll make for some fun holiday travels.
  21. With under 6 to go looks like the Caps are gonna hang a L on my Hawks. Wishing all a great Thanksgiving. Be safe and eat plenty! lol Off to work I go.
  22. Yep, nice afternoon. Falling temps and drizzle/flurries with a breeze
