  2. August numbers for my location Average high was 82.4 degrees vs a normal of 83.9 degrees, a -1.5 degrees below normal. Highest temp was 88.2 degrees on both the 29th and 30th. Average low was 62.5 degrees vs a normal of 60.4 degrees, a +2.1 degrees above normal. Lowest temp was 50.6 degrees on the 24th. Averaged temp for the month was 72.5 degrees vs a normal of 72.2 degrees, a +0.3 degree above normal. The rainfall for the month totaled 4.21 inches vs a normal of 3.21 inches, a +1.00 inch above normal. The largest rainfall date was on the 3rd with 1.16 inches falling. There were 20 days with measurable, 2 days with a T and 9 days were dry. Highest measured wind was 29 mph on the 22nd. EDIT- Left off 1 record, a new 'cool max' temp was set on the 4th of 74.6 degrees.

  8. Odds are HIGH that my last week of August will be enjoyable as headed to visit son in your old stomping grounds I looked and warmest day on extended while there is 68, most mornings forecast near freezing.
  9. And although it isn't perfect, that is why I am here and not there. Was in upper 50's this morning.
  10. I've recorded measurable on 12 of 14 days so far this month, setting at 2.73". Mostly a mid afternoon T-shower/storm each day.
  11. July numbers for my location- Ended month with 4.24 inches of rainfall vs a normal of 4.01, a +0.23 above average. Wettest day was on 24th with 2.13 (or about half of monthly) falling. Had 13 days with measurable, 3 days with a 'T' and 15 dry days. Monthly high averaged 83.8 degrees vs a normal of 84.7 degrees, a -0.9 below average, warmest day was on the 4th with a 91.2 degree reading. Monthly low averaged 61.5 degrees vs a normal of 61.5 degrees, an exact match! Lowest temp recorded was 50.3 degrees on both the 9th and 10th. Overall temp for the month was 72.6 degrees vs a normal of 73.1 degrees, a -0.5 degree below average. Highest wind recorded for the month was 29 mph on the 2nd. No new records were set during the month.

  13. UGH. I'll be looking at a roof job in the next two years more than likely.
  14. I managed to set a new record 'low max' yesterday in the clouds and rain, 74.6 degrees, old mark was 76 from 1985. 0.55 yesterday and 1.97 for the first 4 days of August, MUCH more just (like 5 miles) to my west and then into WV, 3.5-4.5 inches at many of those CO-OP's.

  17. WOW! That is all I can say, 1.62 inches in 30 minutes! Brings total for the day to 2.12 and it is still raining. Water running everywhere.
  18. THIS is awesome summer weather in my book. Currently 51.9/49.8 out there, had a 77.4 high yesterday. Have every screened window and door to house opened and enjoying the refreshing air. I'd like to place an order for a repeat daily of this through Sept please.......
  19. No, that is U G L Y. Been lucky up this way until now, cloud cover and a little light rain earlier this am held temps down, currently 86.3/71.1 here. That is a HI of 92, and that is more than enough for me.

The tornado first touched down in northwest Campbell County, just south of Waterlink Road and east of Timberlake Road (37.3264, -79.241), doing EF1 damage to trees as well as some roof damage, with an initial path width of about 100 yards. It then tracked NNW initially, then NNE and followed along the east side of Timberlake Road, damaging a number of businesses, flipping some cars and a truck trailer. Here it reached low-end EF2 wind speeds of 115 mph. It then crossed Timberlake Road as it moved into the western City limits of Lynchburg. In Lynchburg, the tornado damaged a mobile home park, with minor damage to roofs of homes and business and snapping dozens of trees as it crossed Boonesboro Road. Here it widened to about 600 yards wide doing EF1 damage. It then crossed the James River into Amherst County. In Amherst County the tornado crossed Highway 130 in the Elon area and strengthened to its maximum intensity with winds estimated at 150 mph. Here dozens of homes were badly damaged, some nearly completely, and many large pine trees were snapped off and left with no branches. A motor home was carried about 30 feet and tipped over. The hardest hit areas were along Nottaway Drive and Deerfield Drive. The damage path was about 400 yards wide in this area, but the strong EF3 damage was about 100 yards wide. The tornado then continued moving NNE doing mainly damage to trees and some minor roof damage to homes. Many hundreds of trees were snapped and uprooted as it tracked along parts of High Peak Road and appeared to be as wide as 400 yards at times, doing EF1 damage, before it eventually crossed Wares Gap Road and dissipated as it began to move up Shady Mountain Ridge (37.606, -79.163). The National Weather Service would like to express sincere gratitude to the emergency officials from Campbell and Amherst Counties, as well as the City of Lynchburg.
