The return of the elusive Nor'easter. Drought buster or bust?

Can beat that, a 'T', not even enough to wet objects down here for the 'event' total. -

Never give up, never surrender! -
FINALLY broke out of the fog/haze about an hour ago. Temp up to 58.0/48.1 and up 10 degrees in past hour at 1:15 pm.
-
Fog and 40.2/39.3 this morning after a 39.2 degree low. High was only 55.8 degrees yesterday with clouds and NE to SE breezes, not a record 'warm minimum' (goes to 1979's 53) but did just eek out the 56 from 1993 for second lowest.
-
Congrats to both of you!

Got back from another epic USA road trip, so here's the Sept numbers. Averaged high was 77.4 degrees vs a normal of 76.9 degrees, a +0.5 degrees above average. The warmest day was the 20th at 86.5 degrees (missing a record by 1.5 degrees). Averaged low was 52.6 degrees vs a normal of 53.7 degrees, -1.1 degrees below average. The coldest temp recorded was 40.4 degrees on the 9th. Overall temp was 65.0 degrees vs a normal of 65.3 degrees, -0.3 degrees below average. Total rainfall was 2.28 inches vs a normal of 3.55 inches, -1.27 inches below average. There were 18 dry days, 2 days with a 'T' and 10 days with measurable. The wettest day was the 21st with 0.74 inches falling. Highest wind was 26 mph on the 7th. Only 3 days had winds recorded above 25 mph. No new records for the month, records go back to October 1979. A cool start to the month, then it became warm by mid-month. Dry for the most part, flirted with record dryness until the rains on the 20th/21st. Thanks to neighbor and niece for keeping up with stuff while we were on the trip!

Well, TODAY is the anniversary day! 10/10/79 started my obsession with weather when a 10" snow fell with 80% of the leaves still on the trees. Sounded like people were outside shooting shotguns continuously from all the trees breaking and snapping.

Hit 38.3 overnight, clouds and fog filled in after midnight with low around 2 am and a slow climb to the current 40.4/39.6 at 7:30 am.

On vacation, luckily remembered to do this today on wife's computer (didn't bring mine). Bad thing is 1-took a while to remember the website log-in and 2-couldn't remember my password. FINALLY got in, lol. OK numbers for October DCA: +0.6 NYC: +0.7 BOS: +0.3 ORD: -0.2 ATL: +0.8 IAH: +0.5 DEN: -0.4 PHX: -0.2 SEA: +0.7

After a VERY foggy start here, sun poked out for about 45 minutes, immediately followed by a quick thundershower that dropped about a tenth in ten minutes or less. Currently a soupy/muggy 71.9/70.0 at 3:40 pm after a high of 75.8 an hour ago.

Had 0.37" in gauge at 7 am CoCoRaHS report this am. Planted grass is really coming along. The 60.0 low was warm, but for 2nd morning in a row last year's number (62.9) beats it. Sun is trying to break thru the fog and clouds and it has warmed to a miserably muggy 71.8/68.6 at 10:30 am.
-
Only 0.07" in gauge this morning, sure seemed like more, we had about 4 separate periods when it rained. Quite muggy and foggy outside. Low was 60.0, which although warm did not break the 63.8 degree 'warm minimum' set just last year.
-
Currently 64.6/63.8 with light rain (about 0.05" so far in the gauge) after a 58.3 low. Started a bit after 9 am. Hope it continues for a while, the grass that has come up already is happy.
-
Currently 78.4/64.7 at 2:50 pm with partly cloudy skies. Warm, almost hot. I have a bit of grass already up from Friday's planting! If it doesn't shower before dark I may water to help it along.

Welcome! So where you are in the forum will make a difference in what people will suggest. There is so much TO do. The Ap trail isn't that far off, plenty of other trails, from steep mountains to the canal (which includes biking). Course tons of museums and the Atlantic and bay are close by. It really depends on what you like to do. I am WAY off in the western zone of forum, but plenty out this way too. Trains (both museums and rides), trails, lakes, caves and more. Again welcome!

I overseeded on Friday. Then it rained on Sat (0.26) and last evening (0.74), so win! Course I am a touch cooler than the coastal plain area. Went 'tree peeping' today thru my county into Greenbrier county in WV, about 50% color above 2500 foot, 25-33% down lower. Maples, poplars, dogwoods, cherry and locusts changing, oaks mostly still green.

The 0.74" that fell from those rounds of thunderstorms yesterday evening until about midnight sets a new rainfall record for date, breaking 2015's 0.40 inches. Surprised how low that number is considering we are in prime tropics season, must have been swings and misses here. Anyway, starting day off in the fog and 57.4/56.8. That also took care of worrying about 'dry September's', lol.
-
Yep, way over 1/2" and still raining pretty good with T&L. Nice 2nd storm of the evening
-
Picked up about 2/10ths around an hour ago with a thunderstorm, now that is back-building towards me and I can hear thunder again, maybe a bit more?
-
86.5 for a high today, not near the record high of 89 in 2010, but in the top 5.
-
Your creation is awesome too!
-
81.8/54.4 at almost 2 pm, looks like a 30 degree spread is in the works for today. Brillant sunshine!
-
A 52.3 degree start to the morning with mostly clear skies.
-
Awesome build there @Bob Chill! And sneaky at the same time, I like lol.
-
0.26" fell late yesterday afternoon in a 30 minute shower, pushing this year into third (behind 1985's 0.06" and 2019's 0.27") with 0.37" now for the month. I doubt it stays there with 12 more reporting days, but we shall see. Amazing what a bit of rain does, grass is greener this am and the trees that have turned (about 25% - 33% are in color) look awesome.
