Until it isn't, like today, lol.

Picked up 0.17" overnight here. It was 55.1 degrees at 7 am, which was the low for the period, not a new 'warm minimum', that still stands from 2005's 58 degree reading. High was 65.6 degrees, also not near a record high as the 72 from 2005 remains. Windy overnight, currently WNW at 16 gusting to 29 mph at 8 am and 53.7/44.7 under mostly cloudy skies.

Went to bed around midnight in low 40's, woke at 6 am to 55 degrees! Currently cloudy skies and 55.3/39.8 at 7:45 am.

30.7 low here, least the winds finally backed off this morning.

Start looking for a house/property E or W of downtown. They ruined 77 north of town (took 3 free lanes to two free, two toll and the free are packed stop/go 24/7, although if you wish to pay to drive I think they average 50 cars a day on the tolled lanes) and about to start the same on 77 south of downtown starting next year (so construction), just a FYI.

I set 8 new either record lows or 'cool maxes' between 1/292017 and 1/9/2018, lowest temp was -2.8 degrees. Warmest was 32.8 degrees. Below 20 degrees for 79 hours between 1/5 and 1/8.

Well, the wind machine is back on here. Been breezy (15-25 mph at times) from W most of afternoon, soon as the sun set it hit another gear. Just had a 38 mph gust 5 minutes ago. Currently W at 24 gusting to 35.

Being that my grandparents lived in Rainelle or Quinwood for 40 years I feel I can throw a 'shade' of light on this. Rt 20 from Bellwood to Nettie either sits on or is JUST east of the first large ridge and then drop with the upslope. A LOT of squeezing of moisture happens there. I've seen 4" in Rainelle, 10" in Quinwood and a trace in Sam Black Church from the same event. There is a small place called Hines that was a cut-off (especially in marginal set-ups) where I've witnessed literally a line in/on Rt 60 for snow to dry several times. Snowshoe and Canaan have at least one decent ridge and fall into a valley before climbing again, especially with a more W or WNW wind. Thanksgiving and Christmas were ALWAYS a joy when I was younger, it meant a 90% chance of white on the ground. One Christmas we almost didn't make it, and the snow was as deep as the mailboxes! (that was in Quinwood) I think further northeast towards 'Shoe and Canaan they need a slightly different wind direction to get the really big snows and beat the Quinwood area. A NW to WNW wind seems to favor Quinwood, a NW/NNW seems to favor 'Shoe and north.

Set a new 'cool max' for the date of 37.8 degrees, beating (barely) the 39.0 from 2018 and 1996. Temps climbed here after midnight when it was in upper 20's to 37.4 degrees at 7 am. Although radar looked good last night for about an hour, nothing made it to the ground.
-
Wasn't paying attention (snow does that, right?) so there was a record to report. The 36.3 degree high is a new 'cool minimum', beating 1996's 39 degrees.

Just got back from going to Beckley WV. Looks like high here was 37.8 degrees around 4pm, low was 19.5, not a bad day for Veterans Day. Going west late this am snow depth picked up immediately west of Covington, around 1-2 in White Sulphur Springs and Lewisburg, about 2.5/3 around Sam Black Church and then 3-4 in Beckley itself. A chilly day over there, warmest I saw on the car thermometer was 33. Currently 33.0/19.1 at 6:10 pm here.

So, I called it a 0.1" for first accumulation of the season here. Interesting day and night, winds a steady 15-20 with gusts into mid 30's blew snow, what did accumulate, into corners and against objects. Enough on the snowboard to say 0.1 official at 7 am, but only because a slightly heavier flurry was falling and the winds eased up the 5 minutes or so before I checked. Actually it warmed up after 4 am when it was 19.5 degrees. Currently 23.5/14.2 at 8 am with flurries still falling and WNW 14/19 winds.
-
Not thinking more than a coating is possible here, but boy has it turned chilly! Currently 25.8/14.9 with a NW wind 15 gusting to 27. That makes the WC 14/10. There are still a few flurries flying about.
-
Hit 36.3 around noon (when sun poked out for about 10 minutes) and been dropping since. Currently 33.8/21.4 with clouds and a few flakes still flying around on NW winds 9 gusting to 22 mph. Feels like winter! Nice hot fire in the stove.
-
Just a few flakes blowing in the wind here, guess that counts as first snow of the season? Currently 32.5/26.5 with those flakes at times going by.
-
That area is so interesting with all the large old trees! Edit- just looked at Snowshoe cams, already starting to flurry up there and about 34 degrees.
-
Makes more sense, Dec 1981 was a -4.3 for me here.
-
Had 8.3 inches of snow on the 12th, then a 2 degree low on the 13th. BUT still ended up a +5.1 for the month of Dec 1982 with the massive warmth (+15 to 20) the first week of the month and the few days after Christmas running +15's.
-
Had a gusty shower around 10:30 am, and another one around 1:30 pm. High (I'm assuming since it has dropped a few degrees) was 61.6 degrees around 1 pm. Currently 59.2/48.7 at 2:15 pm with mostly cloudy skies.

Spent another 4 hours clearing the yard yesterday, trees are about 20% still holding leaves. Maybe one or two more 'yard days' and I'll be done for the season.
-
Currently 38.8 degrees here after a 38.4 low.
-
Happy Birthday!
-
27.6 degrees for the low here. Nice inversion ongoing, high up (+3500 elevation) is in the low 40's with valleys in mid to upper 20's. Currently 29.8/25.0 at 8 am with just a bit of high cirrus in the sky.
-
LOL, forecast low from NWS for my location is 32, currently 30.8/21.9 at midnight.

100% with this, you'll like it @PrinceFrederickWx
