  1. Damn… At 803 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms with torrential rainfall over much of West Ashley, James Island, Johns Island and Downtown Charleston. Although rainfall is slowly diminishing, additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches could still fall through 915 PM. As much as 4.42 inches of rain has fallen near Waterfront Park in Downtown Charleston with 3.5 to 4 inches being observed in West Ashley. Radar data suggest as much a 5 to 6 inches may have fallen in some areas of West Ashley into Downtown Charleston. The risk for significant flooding continues.
  2. Hahaha my dewpoint this morning was 78
  3. Dewpoint of 78 this morning at the house
  4. Should an airport have dirt runways?
  5. Man the humidity is definitely back
  6. 11 years ago today, the most powerful tornado I’ve ever encountered. Missed our neighborhood by a mile https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tornado_outbreak_of_June_5–6,_2010
  7. Actually this is very correct. The 1918 flu was actually a new strain of bird flu that aided by WW1 flew across the globe. After it's big hit similar to Covid, it experienced "antigenic drift" which mutated it into a more mild bug. Because this was such a dominant virus it became "the flu" that we know about today, just a milder variant. However when that virus mixes with another one in an animal, it turns into another pandemic. That's what happened with the Swine Flu in 2009. I highly recommend everyone to read Michael Lewis's (Moneyball, The Big Short) book "The Premonition: A Pandemic Story" as it's an absolutely fascinating read
  8. Should be amazing to see at sunrise! Somewhere like Port Clinton, OH would be ideal for this
  9. Would you say an online degree is equivalent to an in campus education? It's became very obvious within my company that those teams who have not adopted at least a hybrid model have fallen considerably behind in projects and productivity. We forget how effective being in the same building really is, even if it's only 3 days a week.
  10. Golf courses are ROUGH right now. Part of the tough scoring this week at Kiawah was how firm the course is
  11. Hurricane will solve that eventually lol
  12. Looks like some records are going to fall with this setup. Looks like we may hit 100 each day here in Summerville
  13. Man looks like the heat is going to roar in this weekend. 90s expected in Charleston
  14. No PTSD, just too many people are overly scared of this. Especially if you’re vaccinated
  15. Honestly Columbus was the best city I've lived in, would recommend. It's like a northern Charlotte, a lot of things to do and a much younger crowd than most Midwest cities. Also very clean place. Ann Arbor was cool but a tad pricey & hipster for me for what it was. Move to Columbus, get in that drawing for $1 Million and get that cheddar lol I do want to say this as well, good on Ohio to end these mandates soon. I believe all mask mandates nationally need to end within the next couple of weeks as we need to do mental healing among those most afraid of this virus. I see it in some of your guys post on this thread, there are clearly those who I'd say are essentially traumatized by this event. Saw a lot of this after an EF-4 hit by my hometown killing 7 people, for the next year or so people would be running to their basements for just a Severe Thunderstorm Warning. These fatal events can be traumatic, and keeping stringent public health policies in effect when a widely available safe & effective vaccine is there is just not needed and reinforces that fear. We all need to get our shots and move on.
  16. https://www.tampabay.com/news/health/2021/03/24/weeks-into-spring-break-adults-under-50-spur-covid-rise-in-florida-tourism-hubs/ Also it's what spurred it last year. When Southern states were the first to open up due to incredibly low case loads, folks hit I-95 and I-75 en masse to visit these areas. Even Charleston averages 7 million vacationers a year. I won't lie, coming from Ohio it's odd to live in a place like this
  17. What a misleading post. Florida has had no surge in cases, in fact its numbers inline with Michigan despite having double the population. It'd be even lower if it wasn't a major vacation spot either, too many Northerners bringing their covid with them
  18. Would see these quite a bit when I lived in the Great Lakes. Very cool to be honest, just would get the brief bursts of convection that was almost entirely hail.
  19. Good one. I will say though some of the reports of its climatic impacts are unreal in 1815. Most crops failing in North America, large summer snows, and such a thick layer of particulates in the atmosphere that sunspots were visible to the naked eye. Last years insane wildfires and saharan dust clouds gave us a few days with that sort of tint here in Charleston, it'd be quite the spectacle to see this for a whole year.
  20. Do you remember the 2010s? Hell I think it was 2014 that was dubbed the year without a Summer. Heck Toledo had Traverse City snowfall in one of those winters
  21. Hail could be a bit of a problem today with anything that fires with that dry air in the mid levels. Honestly not a bad setup for some damaging winds
  22. CAPE has came in much higher than originally anticipated. Heck at my house it's currently 90 with a dew of 68. Helicity is alright, but a fairly low LCL, decent shear and tons of energy are letting these things breathe and put down some damn good storms.
  23. Looks like it’s about to drop around Decatur
