Was 62° this morning! I will say when you grow up with 4 very distinct seasons in the Midwest it is quite a weird feeling to essentially not have a Fall. It's almost a sort of exhaustion over having temps on a daily basis be in the ballpark of 90° from Mother's Day to October 1st.

What a weird day. Absolutely poured buckets this morning, 5" of rain from this girl, now it's pure sunshine and calm with a high in the low 80s and reasonable humidity levels. -
Easy rusty. The wind/storm surge damage is incredible down there, which will require massive infrastructure costs to rebuild. Also oceanfront property is not the cheapest

This is one of the things even I as a weather hobbyist didn't fully realize until I came down here, the difference in impacts in only a few miles is wildly different. I remember going out to Folly Beach last year during Isaias and the difference in conditions between my house and Folly (20 miles as the crow flies) was astounding. Went from cloudy with a slight breeze to 50 mph winds and roaring seas.

Exactly. Instability increases at night with cooler temps aloft, which should allow this thing to really continue ramping up at night over the Loop. I really wouldn’t be shocked if we saw this thing roll in at 150+ the way it’s strengthening during the day time

That tunnel in Mobile backs up terribly before the bay. It’s awful that such a vital road is 2 lanes each way for a significant portion and then has a complete choke of that caliber

Should just name this storm Hurricane Lebron with the amount of hype it’s getting. The models and setup are very alarming but still I cannot recall the alarm bells being rang quite like this while still in the TD/low TS stage

Yeah we can but all those people locally would lose the work. We’d basically move everything over to Houston and close that down permanently

I certainly pray this does not track over portions that Laura did. My company lost an employee and has spent millions of dollars rebuilding our facilities following that event last year. To be honest I think we may just have to close it down if it were to take on another strike

Marginally? Around the eyewall will be akin to a Midwest derecho for hours with a 3-6’ storm surge. This will definitely be a hell of a hit

My old stomping grounds were under three separate Severe T-Storm Warnings today, I don’t know if that has ever happened before. Lots of damage in the hometown by the 3 AM line, another line of severe storms hit the Toledo area around breakfast, and then this afternoon’s events.

People forget Katrina was about as perfect of a setup as you could get. Camped out over the loop current, low shear and great outflow. It kicking so far west over the Gulf in the warmest part of the year is what helped it explode. Hurricane force winds extending out 100 miles is insane, that would be the equivalent of the eyewall making landfall here in Charleston & having hurricane winds in Columbia

Haha A+ for effort. Maybe it's a bit Midwest of me here, but growing up in Ohio we regularly saw severe storms. But a derecho was always a whole different ball game and think they need something to differentiate between your usual severe storm, and the ones where you legit need get in a building. I'll say this, 65 mph is pretty wild stuff but anyone who's seen 90+ can attest that is a hell of an experience.

Good call by the NWS! Any storm with winds 65 knots and higher or extremely large hail is something the public needs to be alerted of immediately. To be honest why not look at potentially having a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, and a Destructive/Extreme Thunderstorm Warning?
