This is true. They are super invasive. They are all over the NY Botanical garden in some of the old growth patches. (The majority of the forest is second growth but there is some old growth in the Bronx river ravine) .

Yeah they definitely cold for this time of year in the low 40s. To our north east in Atlantic Canada (where this airmass originated) water temps are in the low 30s. .

I went to college in Maryland and the springs down there are amazing. Coming home on a weekend was a shock from fully leafed out trees to stick season in 250 miles. What we have today is not abnormal but after the first 80 here in SW Nassua yesterday it definitely is not pleasant. .

Water temps to our north east, especially in Atlantic Canada are extremely cold after a very cold winter up there. So the cold wants to bleed south west. We need a big ridge to overpower the cold bleed. Once that happens it’s game on. .

Barely a sea breeze today so it’s roasting here just inland. Warmest day so far this season. .

Likely early start to the monsoon. Especially with a developing nino. Could put a lid on the heat dome in the SW limiting heat ejections. How much that effects us here, I’m not sure. .

It’s a legit ob from an ASOS station. As far as a micro climate sure. It’s in the heart of the dwarf pine barrens which is characterized by extremely sandy soils and radiates better then any non deep valley location on the east coast. Regardless of KFOK, KJK was almost 10 degrees cooler then the park or KLGA. .

I vividly remember snow ripping during the day during better banding. It would finally start to accumulate with slush caked to absolutely everything. Then rates would diminish and it would change to light rain and everything would melt. The ultimate tease storm. .

Just got back from a run and I’m sweating like crazy. Just far enough inland to get into some decent warmth. Decent fetch over land in western Nassua on the south shore vs eastern Nassua and Suffolk. .
-
North shore doing its thing. Low 60s here but the south wind is back so as soon as it overwhelms solar insulation we are dropping through the 50s .
-
Yeah I should have been here watching the models with you guys. I was dealing with some issues, back for good now. .

Yeah going to be one of those springs on the south shore. Lots of misery mist while the city west is 70+ and sunny. .

Ambrose jet event with strong southerly winds localized close to shore on western LI .

Yeah I did not mention lows as we are all on the same page. There are some great ways to mitigate urban heat islands that are sadly underutilized. Green roofs, painting asphalt white and mitigation of suburban sprawl. Regardless of the UHI influence (which is hard to quantify) it’s a historic and unprecedented run. .
