  1. I have a feeling that Tuesday may be one if those days when we get to 32 but never go above it.
  2. I'm not sure if you are referring to the winter of 93-94 or 95-96 because both winters were bads ones around here and 94-95 was lame in comparision. In Janaury of 94 we had a storm that gave a dumping of about 6" of snow followed by some sleet, freezing rain and plain rain. Then an artic front moved through and any snow/slush that wasn't cleared froze solid in place as temps went below zero that night and it stayed bitter cold for the rest of the week. NYSDOT had a policy in place at the time where they didn't plow or salt as much during the overnight hours to save money. This came back to bite them big time as did the techonolgies back then in snow removal. Everything was essentially closed for the rest of the week because it was too cold for plain road salt to work. Most roads had these mounds of ice frozen to them that could not be melted or plowed off. The Thruway was one of the only roads that was open and passable and one reason for that was that they were one of the only organizations at the time that was chemically treating the road salt so that it was more effective, especially at temps below 20 when plain road salt starts to lose it's effect. After this debacle any other agencies who were on the fence about chemically treating road salt quickly had their minds made up. Thats why nowadays you may notice liquid tanks on the side of salt spreaders or you may see road salt that has color to it, I've seen green road salt used by the Thruway Authority before for example. So the technology in snow and ice removal has come a long way since then so I doubt we'll see anything as bad as that winter on the roads except for during or right after a big storm.
  3. Wow that stinks and as HV21 said, sounds like you were lucky to not be more serially hurt. You have to be careful too because you cold wind up doing more damage to the roof trying to remove the ice then if you just left it there.
  4. 8.6 on the old Davis but 7.5 on my much cheaper thermometer, can I submit that instead?
  5. Wow, I wonder why you didn't drop further? Clouds move in sooner, winds kept up? I'm sure that you sat up all night constantly monitoring your backyard conditions
  6. We had some clouds move in right around the time of my low based on the obs from SWF which is a reason I would think that it didn't go lower. I don't always trust the KMGJ obs as they showed clear all morning but I can see the overcast.
  7. Same here with a low of 0(.4), currently sitting at 3 (3.2)

  9. My aunt lives in Wolcott, CT and she made out rather well too. Ilove how it's going to stay cold now so we won't get much of any melting. Then we'll see if we can sqeeze anything out of the clipper and then next week. This is the kind of winter I like, as do many of you I presume.
  10. A State of Emergency for 10"? Wow. Thanks for the photos. Good for you Radders!
  11. 6.0" here. Was hoping for a little more but I now have a snowpack of 12-14" from three different storms, so I like that alot Like I said before, I'd take 4 snowfalls like this over 24" at one shot any year. Hopefully this time next week we'll get another one like this was and last Friday.
  12. All of this talk about the low forming closer to the coast is very interesting, as are the reports of sleet and rain. It will be interesting to see if this continues.
  13. You being further east than I am will help you out.
  14. I threw 8-12" out there a couple of days ago and haven't really strayed from it although I was thinking, this morning anyway, that western Orange may be around 6". I think that higher ratios will save us.
  15. Hey Radders, I 'm getting from some other threads that theres another storm around this time next week, did you see anything with that, snow around here?
  16. I'm just south of your map, near KMGJ but I think I get what you're thinking, thanks!
  17. Hopefully it verifies. I just can't believe the way the storm pattern has been since last winter. At least we get in on the action more this season but it really is a pretty incredible stretch for the NYC area. I'll take another 6+" though to add to our snow pack.
  18. Winter Storm Watches.....snow from the snow pack drifting across roads in spots.....crews out pushing snow banks and piles back to make room for the next snowfall.....there are worse ways to start off the work week for me.
  19. My thoughts exactly. Which model will win the battle this time around?
