  1. -2 already, hawaiian shirt party here, nuff said. Hope everyone else is ramroding tonight too!
  2. I got to 0 this year but it's been 2 years since I've gone below zero, I'm confident breaking that streak but not sure by how much.
  3. All the guidance is pointing to something big, are we going to have flashbacks to the end of last Feb....... I'm in a better place if that's the case with my generator ready to go. What could become an increasing concern will be flooding. Next weeks storm looks very juicy and even if we get all snow around here at some point all of that snow plus what we already have will melt and run off. Hopefully we'll have a long gentle thaw in March.
  4. I need to make time to watch the concerts but the documentary on Darkness was very good. It's amazing how many songs he wrote for that album to only use a select few, which is why there is this "new" stuff. Also, you can finally buy the album or songs from the 25th Anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concert from 2009. I had a bootleg of that from the night that Bruce and the E Street Band were the house band but couldn't get anything from the first night when U2 filled that roll so I was glad to see this available. So I got all of the Bruce, U2, and Metallica stuff but there's plenty others that were involved. A heads up that if you try to get it from iTunes Jungleland is available only with the album only but if you get it from Amazon you can get it as a single along with everything else. It's all worth checking out. Back on topic, the winds have been steadily increasing here, lots of snow blowing off the rooftops.
  5. 3.7" IMBY, easy to clean up and it sparkled with the rising sun
  6. Off topic but I see you have Bruce in your avatar, did you get The Promise?
  7. Hmm, that's half of the NAM and typically one can cut the NAM amounts down a bit but I recently read in one of the threads that the closer the event the the less the NAM is off.
  8. 12Z Nam got juicer from last night, a little over .50" for KMGJ. Let's see what the GFS does in a bit.
  9. That feeling worked out, I got to 32 at 6:20pm yesterday and have been sitting there ever since. No snow here, just some more freezing/plain rain it looks like.
  10. I've been using a pick on the ice in my stone driveway I really hope that we get above freezing long enough tomorrow to work on the ice rink aka my driveway.
  11. Looking at the radar I see that Orange County is getting into a solid band of precip moving in from the south,
  12. Maybe not a huge event but the roads are rather slick and this type of storm solidifies the snow pack too We'll get above freezing for a few hours on Wednesday which will help with clean up but then here we go again, back into the cold with another storm to watch. I see the NAM spits out .74 I believe for KMGJ for the next storm which should be all snow with probably pretty good ratios. It's been a great winter so far and it keeps coming.
  13. Mine too. Looks like a mix out there, it's certainly not all snow but temp still sitting at 19.
  14. I have a feeling that Tuesday may be one if those days when we get to 32 but never go above it.
  15. I'm not sure if you are referring to the winter of 93-94 or 95-96 because both winters were bads ones around here and 94-95 was lame in comparision. In Janaury of 94 we had a storm that gave a dumping of about 6" of snow followed by some sleet, freezing rain and plain rain. Then an artic front moved through and any snow/slush that wasn't cleared froze solid in place as temps went below zero that night and it stayed bitter cold for the rest of the week. NYSDOT had a policy in place at the time where they didn't plow or salt as much during the overnight hours to save money. This came back to bite them big time as did the techonolgies back then in snow removal. Everything was essentially closed for the rest of the week because it was too cold for plain road salt to work. Most roads had these mounds of ice frozen to them that could not be melted or plowed off. The Thruway was one of the only roads that was open and passable and one reason for that was that they were one of the only organizations at the time that was chemically treating the road salt so that it was more effective, especially at temps below 20 when plain road salt starts to lose it's effect. After this debacle any other agencies who were on the fence about chemically treating road salt quickly had their minds made up. Thats why nowadays you may notice liquid tanks on the side of salt spreaders or you may see road salt that has color to it, I've seen green road salt used by the Thruway Authority before for example. So the technology in snow and ice removal has come a long way since then so I doubt we'll see anything as bad as that winter on the roads except for during or right after a big storm.
  16. Wow that stinks and as HV21 said, sounds like you were lucky to not be more serially hurt. You have to be careful too because you cold wind up doing more damage to the roof trying to remove the ice then if you just left it there.
  17. 8.6 on the old Davis but 7.5 on my much cheaper thermometer, can I submit that instead?
