  1. So we got 2 camps of models for tomorrow:1. The GFS / EURO / HRRR / RAP showing highs in the mid/upper 90s.2. The NAM / NAM ensembles / GEM only showing highs in the low/mid 80s.^^^We will find out which set of these models is terrible. I want to lean towards #2, but on the other hand, #2 does a good job of picking up on those shallow cold fronts that end up stronger than forecasted.
  2. Also, derechos are one thing, but it's rare that you see one moving NNE like today in the Upper Midwest.
  3. This unusual Ring of Fire setup has been very underrated, in the midst of talks about the drought and the heat...
  4. Not sure how it was in the Midwest, but 1980 was right up there with 2011, featuring amongst the worst heatwaves (both in terms of length & intensity) in Texas history. Fort Worth also recorded its warmest temp ever (113*F) that year. Both years of course were drive by widespread severe/extreme/exceptional drought conditions, and both of those Springs wre also quite windy here (like this year)
  5. That's probably a bit extreme, IMO. It's more like May 2011 or March 2012.
  6. Today's high at DFW was 93*F. Also, FWD is calling for temps in the 90s throughout the entire 7-day forecast.
  7. Wind direction. Northern Florida is seeing a strong NE flow from over land and the cooler Atlantic water, whereas you all are getting a strong southerly flow from the warm GOM.
  8. This map of the GOM says it all: It's weird here too, because normally dewpoint will mix out as we head into peak heating, and that hasn't been happening. If anything, they've been increasing.
  9. I wouldn't put too much weight into the long range model solutions right now. Between the positive feedback loop with the ongoing/worsening drought across NM / TX and no signs of a -NAO / +PNA occurring, those solutions are liable to change. They're already starting to trend away from the trough-y solution and more towards a torch.
  10. Gonna have to wait and see yet again if we saw an intra-hour high of 95*F at DFW (both the 4pm and 5pm observations were 94*F).
  11. Amarillo recorded its earliest 100*F day ever today, by 8 days. Their records go back 130 years...
  12. While vegetation is lagging in its growth across the Midwest, on the flip side, you also have a considerably warmer than normal Gulf this season too (in a region where this Spring has been fairly torchy) that will aid in moisture advection northward.
