    In theory, the low would be 86*F at DFW (another record maximum), but of course a couple of rogue rain shower has billowedvup across thr Metroplex. So that might take a hit.

    Today's high at DFW was an intra-hour 105*F. 22nd day for this year. EDIT: Make that an intra-hour 106*F.

    Tied another record maximun low at DFW this morning (83°F, previously set in 2006).

    After a 2-day reprieve, DFW achieved an intra-hour high of 100*F today. It is the 21st day this season.

    It's just a slang term for an unusually strong & stagnant upper level High Pressure center producing unusually warm temps.

    As of today, DFW has reached its average number of 100°F+ days in a year (20). Current projections are we should end up solidly above that number.

    I'm COVID-free, unvaxxed and have never taken a test, so likely a unicorn at this point. And this is all while living in states that have effectively been wide open since the brief lockdowns were lifted in May 2020. (I know certain folks in OT will have a ball with this revelation, and more power to them).

    I've heard rumblings that we could be looking at a El Nino come winter, and that outlook would go completely against the grain.

    Ventusky is now showing highs of 120°F+ in DFW for 7/24 and 7/25.

    What has been persistent -NAO blocking (which may even strengthen towards the end of the month) will probably ensure that it remains transient the further north and east one gets. Either way, as Alek implied in the Texas thread, we're boned out here unless the Tropics miraculously come through.

    Predictably, the GFS has backed down on the strength/size of the ridge in the long range, as well as its eastern extent. But still looking plenty hot for the Plains and Mississippi Valley.

    BTW, you know this heat means business when there isn't much of a temperature drop after a heavy rain shower. Love Field was one of the lucky spots to get a downpour late yesterday afternoon and their temp was still at 100*F afterwards.

    After heat indices topping out at 110*F yesterday and an Excessive Heat Warning, the cool down has arrived. Dallas & Tarrant Counties have been downgraded to Heat Advisories with heat indices *ONLY* up to 105*F and highs *ONLY* in the low 100s. This morning's low was 81*F.

    Another record maximum low tied this morning at DFW of 84°F (last set in 2011).

    Welp, the 90s that were in the forecast beyond Tuesday are now gone. The lowest forecast high now is 100°F on Wednesday

    If it's any consolation, at least through 240hr, the EURO and GGEM aren't setting up to be as impressive with the heat/ridge as the GFS (so far).

    It hasn't been 1980 and 2011 extreme, but 2022 is definitely in the running for top 10 or even top 5 warmest summer to-date. How this year stands out from 1980 and 2011 is that the July/August-type heat arrived and has mostly stuck around since early May. In the aforementioned 2 years, the extreme heat didn't kick in until the 2nd half of June.
