I ride motorcycles with a group of guys and we usually have few days with that January thaw to ride. Not this year. Some of them got out, but those days were only 40-43 degrees with risk of road salt, so I opted out.

OBS-Nowcast Noon Saturday 2/15-Noon Monday 2/17

Need a 'nothingburger' emoji. Got a coating and then changed to rain. Non-event. Roads were slightly slippery when snow started sticking but quickly disappeared as they salted or we had the changeover.- 475 replies

I just went to see if I could scrape the driveway. No bueno. Frozen 1" crust. I will wait until it warms a bit more. Last night, I stepped out on the porch around 11pm. It was pretty much straight freezing rain at that time. Earlier it was a very hard sleet hitting the window. For the times that I did look out the window, it was never snow. Just sleet.

31 degrees and just a coating. Sounded like quite a bit of sleet hitting the windows about 20 minutes ago. Calmed a bit now

Snowfall NYC subforum Jan 6 and OBS if needed
BlizzLuv replied to wdrag's topic in New York City Metro
Light snow for about 20-30 mins and collecting on surfaces. 26 degrees. -
3 degrees out and of course I wake at 5am to a house that is 58 degrees and a 'System Malfunction' message in the thermostat display. Luckily, I was able to reset but now have holiday guests with a possible heat problem, water that we don't know whether it is safe to drink... At least there are holiday spirits to drink and a gas stove to help heat. Ugh.

I am just puzzled by it and pondering out loud. It seems too many and too widespread to be some kids or folks flying at once and trying to create a hysteria. Not sure what is going on.

Many reports here again tonight, too, by neighbors via the Ring community. Bizarre. I have not seen any tonight but 2-3 nights ago there were about four. Not sure if this is folks trying to create a mass hysteria? There is nothing nefarious about a drone hovering. My son does a lot of nighttime time lapse of NYC etc with his. It will hover 1o minutes gathering images. That being said, why so many all at once? Are folks just more aware?

Just as I was heading out around 10am, the squall kicked up. Near whiteout conditions for a few minutes. Was awesome. Then it was gone as quickly as it started. Now just sunny and blustery.

Just heard thunder. Seemed odd, I have not heard that much in the past months.

Just needs to come a bit further south...

Congrats to those getting snow! I am watching the CLE vs PIt and getting psyched for winter with the CLE lake effect.

We were out near Whitehouse, Clinton and High Bridge, NJ late afternoon today. There was a haze and strong smell of smoke out that way. I swung by Spruce Run Reservoir and water levels are the lowest I have ever seen. I believe it is in the area of 32 or 31 percent capacity, with a record low of 28 and change

I thought my station was reading incorrectly this afternoon when it read 81.

Agreed. I planted grass seed several weeks ago where my neighbor's contractor had to dig up my lawn to repair his water line. They promised to reseed and did not. I finally did it myself just in time and now, last week, their landscaper ran the lawnmower over the spouting grass, ripping up green sprout, rutting the new soil and blowing away the hay topping. I am livid as too late for me to reseed again.

I had to reseed a portion of the front lawn due to skunk damage and the side due to my neighbor's contractor not reseeding or filling sinkholes he created my lawn while replacing a water line. I have had to water daily for two weeks and the grass is coming up and everything around those areas is brown and dormant. I usually aerate and overseed every other year. I skiped this year as it has been so dry.

Dormant here too. The skunks destroyed a portion of my front lawn, so I reseeded last weekend and have watered twice daily. I was counting on rain yesterday that never happened. Good thing I did not overseed and aerate the rest of the lawn this year.

I can confirm and I just was in the hospital for 2 days for a severe staph infection on my legs. I had several bites from when hiking and doing yardwork, which I scratched. May have been while doing yardwork and got dirt on the bites? Either way, it spread quickly and severely. It initially appeared like a poison ivy rash. I assumed that was all it was. I have learned some valuable lessons. All is getting better now though, thank goodness, but I hate mosquitoes.
