Smugglers Notch and Bolton Valley with my daughter Friday and Saturday. Smuggs was great, 2-3” of snow overnight and the lower angle woods and natural trails skied super nice. Bolton Valley was excellent as Jspin mentioned. We had to go to the main lodge to get our Indy pass tickets, so we started right on vista then caught the opening of wilderness. Two great days all around!

Top ten day at MHM for our “last.” Deep powder turns with constant refreshers. Face shots all day long. Our flights got cancelled the next day due to a 12/06 Boston type situation in Portland Wednesday night . We drove up Seattle to fly out of there instead. We skied the summit at Snoqualmie at night. Very cold but also very fun. Finally after more cancelled flights we made it home at 3:40am Saturday. Full 30 hours later than expected.

Just finished three great days at Mount Bachelor. Not as steep as Meadows but certainly plenty of great terrain. Such an impressive mountain overall. Summit was open for us Sunday. We did two big 3300 vert runs through the alpine down into endless tree skiing off the backside. We finished off the three days with storm skiing all day today. Back to Meadows tomorrow.

Great night skiing at Hoodoo last night. Very fun place to ski. Fun fast groomers and lots of stuff for my son to jump off. I’d love to get back their and ski off the summit.

Hoping any frozen is moved out of Albany before we fly in @ 9:30 Thursday.

Mount Hood Meadows is pretty legit. Doesn’t get the credit it deserves. Skied some pretty steep lines yesterday, heather canyon, private reserve, both super fun. The rest of the mountain was pretty awesome too. Snow was real good while the sun was out. Skied a pretty legit no fall line into Heather canyon, chalky wind blown to straight up ice, had to tell myself several times “I’m a good f$&king good skier!”

Mad River Glen was a great time yesterday! Place was pretty empty with both the single and double chairs being ski on. Snow was nice and soft up top which made for some fun turns in the woods. Trails are getting pretty thin but they still skied well. They did close a few more. Lower half of the mountain was very sticky. None of this stopped us fully from skiing our favorite lines but we did so with a real abundance of caution. My whole body is very sore today. Sadly, they are going to take a beating the next couple weeks. Fingers cross things can turn around again late month.

Magic was great considering the snow surface. Slide of Hans and Goniff were decent. Natural trails were mostly coral reef and heavy crust but once they were skied they were fine. They badly need a foot or two!

Berkshire East was good the last couple days. I managed to get out early yesterday before the wind and late today after the wind. Both days the skiing was excellent for midwinter manmade hard pack. Today felt much colder as the sun disappeared right when I got there. At Magic tomorrow for the JR IFSA comp. Looks like a glorious day!

Going to bundle up and make a few runs tomorrow morning. I like skiing in the cold to a certain extent. Not sure Id be skiing in NNE tomorrow but down here won’t be as bad with full sun.

Not sure how to follow up Japan. That looks like it was an amazing trip! I’d like to make it there someday. February 1st marks the beginning of the end for snowmaking at a lot of resorts. Most places like to wrap it up before the busy school vacation week. So go longer depending on weather and need. Looks like a prime stretch for round the clock snowmaking the rest of this week at least down here.

Yeah it was awesome yesterday. I went on a skinning adventure, checking out some places I wish had enough snow to ski right now. Today had some good skiing too but no sun so not as nice.

Berkshire East was various levels of fun the last week. None of the three storms really produced much. Monday seemed around 6-8” of very dense wet snow. This did allow them to get some of the natural snow trails “open”. Jug, lift line and a couple others. There were a ton of rocks and extremely thin cover but they skied well for a little bit. Monday early was the best, fast wet snow on the manmade surfaces was really a blast. This weekend should be nice, warming temps and hopefully some sun.

Steady snow in savoy

Jay was good yesterday. First couple runs were awesome down exhibition and then the woods next door. Lower angle stuff was definitely better but all in all it wasn’t bad considering the low snowfall so far. We tried our one tram run but we waited 30 mins to make it to the door and then they held for 15 mins, finally telling us it was closed. Kick in the sack for sure. Patrol opened a lot of questionable covered terrain but I like the MRG style anyway so it was fine, skis survived.

Looks good for burying some bodies! Might almost be able to ski up there again soon.

Has anyone here been to Mount Bachelor? Friend of mine has a place in Bend for a month. I might pull the trigger and head out for a few days over February vacation. Probably ski Mount Hood Meadows too.

NAM mostly frozen for Saddleback/Sugarloaf. Winter goes on up there. Gotta get up there this year.

I’m nipple deep in 200 hour gfs powder this winter for sure!

Decent shift east.

These dumpy winters separate out the places with big budget snowmaking vs the rest. Magic for example is trying to open Thursday after being closed since New Year’s Day. Likely they open for one day and are closed or extremely limited for the holiday weekend. Sad state of affairs indeed. One of the better places to ski in New England when they have snow!

No school. Well I do but my daughter doesn’t. Top ten June days, kids staring out windows, endless work sheets and videos. Will be sad to see it.

Skiing was surprisingly good at Berkshire East over the holiday break. Early week was hard fast groomers and later in the week turned into spring groomers. Bare spots got worse as the week went along but the coverage was still fine despite the warming temperatures. Considering how terrible last year was at the same time I’ll take it.
