Hoping to get back BMOM and Saddleback later this season. SB is awesome. One of the best in the east.
-
They are opening tramside today. Running on mostly natural snow over there.

They blew whales to allow the rain to run off. Hard to get into the woods at beast before Christmas. 2007 and 2008. 2013 I believe had a nice storm mid month I remember skiing in the woods. 2014 had a big one up north not sure about Berkshire east. 2019 and 2020 smoked by cutters.

Berkshire East has indeed been blowing everyday this week. This rain storm is a bummer as the skiing despite being hard is really good. Not many rocks or stumps to contend with. They will fire the guns back up as soon after they clean up any damage and hopefully they can open Saturday. Friday I would think is doubtful. As long as snowmaking weather can continue into the holiday week they should offer a decent variety of terrain off the summit.

Was up at Jay Peak for the last 4 days. Conditions improved rapidly from Thursday to Sunday. Trees and natural snow trails were almost in. It didn’t deter people from skiing them though. I tired a couple spots and found there to still be some stumps and rocks. Overall a great time. Sad the rain is coming, hopefully the new year can bring a big storm.

It’s more like 450 feet. I’m hoping for 6” of slop and big powder bomb next week! -
Maine has some killer skiing. I've been lucky to be involved in some pretty awesome powder days up there. Feb 2010 famous "snowicane" storm that dumped 70" on the Catskills also dumped over 5 feet at Saddleback with no change up over up high. Drove 8 hours in a whiteout from my house in Holden to Rangeley. Worth every moment of that drive. Two of the best days of my life. Skied Sugarloaf while the big Noreaster in Feb 2013 was going on. Not the big totals of down south but they still got over 15" of wind loaded snow that all went into bracket basin which was previously closed. Pretty sick day. Hit Black mountain of maine on a couple powder days, place has some of the best tree skiing in New England which is saying a lot.

Smuggs has the best terrain in the east. Stowe is pretty good too. The terrain off the four runner quad is pretty much on par with the best terrain pods I’ve skied anywhere. The side country at both places is amazing as well. Then there is MRG which has a special place in my heart. Big time rowdy terrain by both east and west standards. MRG is one of remaining pure classic places to ski in the USA(Alta, Taos)

My day April 21st. 15” of powder but the lifts were on hold per usual. Still an awesome day of human powered turns.

Went to Killington last Wednesday. it was decent for early season. They were running north ridge plus they opened top to bottom off the gondola. Not an ideal setup for lapping but it worked out. Northridge had a few options which felt a lot more than the same date last year.

Nice to see Bousquet opening on Friday. They have been blowing snow all week and it looks like they will be offering a decent amount of their terrain. Great hill with a really nice new lodge and bar. Very skin friendly. They have some fun trees if they get the snow. I would say they get a bit more snow than Berkshire East.

Nice tour up Stratton yesterday. Still a ton of snow up at the top and plenty of top to bottom with minimal walking.

Clearly no lifts were going to run at Jay today. Wind was howling all day. Lucky for me I packed my skins! There were not many people hiking up which made for lots of fresh tracks. I ripped Canyonland, Valhalla and finally Timbuktu to the car. Snow was fantastic, dense surfy pow, bottomless feeling. Last run down Timbuktu may have been the run of the season. (Yes, 99 days both here in the east and out west!) Untouched down the boundary line, hooting and hollering as I went. Sadly I can’t ski tomorrow and today is my last natural snow day of the season but damn was it a good day to end it!

I keep skiing so I’ll keep posting in here! As mentioned in the NNE thread, Jay Peak was awesome Sunday. Patrol dropped some ropes and the lucky few who were there feasted. Green Beret and Valhalla off the tram we’re fantastic. Plenty of fun turns we’re had off of the jet as well. Very happy to have made the trip up there.

Jay was interesting in a fun way today. Snow up high and rain down low. Given how nasty it was the other day I’d call the skiing pretty good. Coverage was still pretty nice. The woods skied really well, especially where other skiers had broken down a bit of the grabby crust. Looking forward to some fresh snow tomorrow morning. Not many pictures due to the weather.

Stratton was super fun today. Fresh couple inches at the top early made for some midwinter like conditions for a couple hours. By afternoon things were full out spring mashed potatoes. Frank’s Fall line was the run of the day, the snow they blew last week has really made a difference. Stratton has been a lot of fun this year for me. They surprisingly have a decent amount of fun lower angle trees. I only got a chance to get into them once or twice all season. But I will say I enjoyed many nice days just cruising around.

They are very committed to making Memorial Day! I like seeing it! Two more Ikon days left there for me.

Beast did a great job opening for one final weekend. Saturday was the better day but both offered some decent skiing. Lots of fun hanging in the lot, grilling and drinking IPAs.

Always fun and exciting times out here in the hill towns! Daughters school district called a snow day! So I had to take a day off of work. -
Catamount closed for season. Berkshire East is ok. Many dirt spots and rocks. Still a solid base that they may be able to move around. Comp, cloud, Umass, grizzly are still decent. And more importantly the base of the mountain seems fine for now. They are going to try hard to open next weekend.

What a crazy 72 hours of skiing in NH this past weekend. Friday, rock hard midwinter groomers. Saturday pouring rain flipped to dumping snow, skiing trees by the end of the day. Sunday incredible windblown powder day with fresh tracks everywhere. Gotta love New England! Skinned and skied in a tshirt the last few days here in western mass.

Yeah it looks like the euro caved to the GFS for the weekend. Hoping for elevation snow at Jay Peak, IFSA eastern finals this weekend.
