It is only a matter of time before these lows hitting the Mid Atlantic are snow instead of cold rain.
This winter will be a record snow winter for Washington DC and the greater Mid Atlantic.
All hell is going to break loose this winter. Get your ice melter, Jebman Shovels and several backup snowblowers. Don't forget the snowshoes.
You're gonna need em in the Mid Atlantic this winter. It will be frigid cold, super snowy and absolutely unrelenting.
Washington DC will have a White Christmas, with over a foot of snow on the ground. THIS Christmas.
And NO, Leesburg04, you will NOT be fringed this winter. Leesburg will be extremely HARD HIT by deep snow this winter. You will be sick and tired of digging snow by Jan 15 2019. You will be crying for the Jebman to come up from Texas, to come dig you all out lmao.
At least five blizzards with TSSN+++ w/ at least 6"/hr snowfall rates with hurricane force wind gusts or bust.

Exactly.
Let things develop through the next 30 days so around the 10th we could have a legit chance at a snow event.
Or the 5th.

Indeed - that 11-11-87 shellacking was memorable. Had 13" in Lorton. Posted the below earlier today in the digital snow thread. Haven't figured out how to quote something here from another thread yet.
Begin quote
That MAY be the storm you are thinking about, but we also got nailed on 11 Nov 1987 - Veterans Day. I moved to NVA from Ohio in 85 and remember the Nov 87 storm well. It snuck up on everyone and crippled DC. Had an ULL that generated its own cold and a lot of fatties. The rates were intense - and the bullseye was the proverbial "DC Snow Hole" with as much as 15". I lived in Lorton at the time at Pohick and Rt-1 and we got about 13" there.
Here's a couple of articles about it:
https://www.weatherbug.com/news/Washington-s-Veterans-Day-Storm-Remembered
https://dcstorms.com/2012/11/11/veterans-day-snowstorm-of-1987/
Just press the "+" button next to the "Quote" button. A box saying "Quote 1 post" will appear at the bottom right of your screen. Ignore it and go to the thread where you want to quote that/those person/people. The box will reappear in the bottom right of your screen. This time click the box and the person's post that you're quoting from another thread will appear in the comment box.

@Kmlwx I know that you usually keep a good track record of these things. How many in the region were without power at the height of the windstorm from March 2nd this year?

The only good snow is a heavy wet paste that comes down at at least 10"/hr with 75+ mph winds. Snowicane Andrea is going to have us all winning bigly this winter.

Falling temperatures. Rising first flake chances.

Just 0.50 here, a little wind and chilly. The 44.0 degree high is a new record 'cool max' for the date, beating 2005's 47.0 reading. That is the 2nd cool max of the month (22nd), first time that has happened in a good while.
Sorry about that. Weenie mode got carried away and changed my 1.36" total to a heavy wet paste.

With decent enso forcing it's very possible that Nov starts showing winter's hand. I'm slowly coming around to the idea that this winter may be pretty good.
I really like our odds... especially with the $1+ billion jackpot. I remember what happened a short while after the last one. We should be buried alive by Christmas. Even Jebman won't be able to rescue us.

I will take a guess at this (I swear I haven't looked at the archives).
BethesdaWx is posting and I believe he was banned from that screen name in early 2012. This forum started in late 2010; therefore, the event in question is most likely in 2011.
There's a mention of the storm's winds being "even worse than last weekend"- makes me immediately think of the back-to-back windstorms in February 2011. However, there is talk about bow echoes and hail and tornado risks, while both those events in February were just clear windstorms and nothing else.
Final answer... April 2011? There was a big tornado outbreak around that time but I don't remember the exact day.
You were uber close. It actually was the second of the two February 2011 windstorms. I'll give this round to you though.

Some mesoscale models have some convective line segments moving swiftly through parts of the region tomorrow evening with some meager CAPE but decent shear. Maybe some wind gusts with any that form.

Probably overdone but the 23z HRRR is advertising 40-50kt wind gusts across a good part of the region overnight.
NAM 3km says 35-40kt gusts.

It hasn't rained for more than 24 hours. My yard is now only spongy instead of spongy with puddles and it doesn't seem like it will rain again until at least Tuesday. If this keeps up I may, dare I say, be able to mow the lawn this weekend.
This drought means business folks. Water your thirsty lawns. Make sure your outdoor plants can survive until at least Tuesday... if it even rains then. Hurry... before this dryness reaps their poor little souls and they go haunting you in your dreams turning them into nightmares. Once that happens they will take control of your soul and you will all go into your yards and plant yourselves into the ground drinking up any rain that comes by. But then once it becomes colder the cold will reap your souls just like it does to the grass every winter. But with that having happened you will miss all the great snowstorms, snowicanes and a surprise tropical that will annihilate the region this winter.
So please... don't forget to water your lawns and gardens.
EDIT: I was able to mow the lawn this afternoon! Unreal.
