I just installed for the first time since we bought this house 8 years ago. The times before when we got hot or humid it would break soon enough but my wife has been really uncomfortable for the past couple of days with the heat. Looking forward to Tuesday's low dews now.

Mark Breen of the Fairbanks Museum said on VPR this morning that the museum got a smidge under 8 inches of rain. Beat the previous record for daily rainfall by 3 inches. Blame Canada

GFDL built a big addition to house a new computer in the early80s (I think that was when it went up). I remember visiting my dad at the lab in 90s and by then the computer had been replaced with one which took up just a fraction of the room.

The New York Times would print a visible sat photo each day. With big storms I would cut them out to "track" them by cutting it out day and flipping through them to see movement. My dad worked at GFDL and their supercomputer was the most powerful or one of the 2 or 3 most powerful in the world in the 70s and into the 80's- it used punch cards.

BTV discussion update: https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=BTV&issuedby=BTV&product=AFD&format=CI&version=1&glossary=1 As of 1029 AM EDT Tuesday...Quiet and humid this morning. The main tweak has been to show increased confidence in the convection focused along the southern half of the state with increased PoPs and QPF down south. HREF probabilities indicate a reasonable chance of reaching at least an inch from a swath covering the Adirondacks east towards the southern Champlain Valley. The Storm Prediction Center has also bumped this area up to an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) due to almost every piece of guidance showing a large bowing segment crossing the Mohawk Valley and grazing the Adirondacks and south-central Vermont. We`ll continue to monitor the development of the thunderstorms out ahead of the vigorous shortwave. The amount of instability remains a question, but the shear will be present. Stay tuned.
