  1. 1912, 1963 and 1966 sound like the best because of all that snow on xmas eve!
  2. How do you like your house up there? Huntington is an awesome area!
  3. Longest ever such period for November? I dont remember 1987 or 1989 being this cold for this long. Dont remember 1976 lol.
  4. This is like a strong noreaster! During the day it'd be blinding sheets of windswept rain for hours!
  5. Probably lots of snowmelt in the Poconos and Catskills where it was below zero a couple of days ago.
  6. Always remember 2014-15. Even if it gets delayed that much, that winter was worth it!
  7. Thanks that should be the earliest below zero temperature for either location and maybe even the first time it's ever happened in November.
  8. Also saw that MPO dropped to -2, their earliest below zero temp on record (and first time in November) also? Anyone know what the low at Monticello was?
  9. Long live Jan 1985! I remember that well, my windows were iced over lol. The coldest day in this area since Jan 1977. The high stayed in the single digits too! That was also the Reagan inaugural and I remember it looked like Antarctica down there lol. Don, Chris, etc., do you think we have a higher than normal probability of getting something like that again this winter?
  10. Exactly, basically when predicting climate you are working with much larger margins since the forecast resolution doesn't need to be as fine as it is with pin point local forecasts. Climate is more about trends, while weather is about specific events.
  11. Syracuse and Binghamton both had their earliest 0 or below temps on record and first time ever in November! Don do you think we have a good chance to go below zero areawide this winter at least once?
  12. Path and timing of arctic high was perfect for both CAA and radiational cooling. Got down to 13 here in southwest Nassau and FOK got down to 6. JFK 15 smashed previous monthly record. Looks like Binghampton and Syracuse both had their earliest below zero reading ever and first time ever in the month of November! My barometer peaked at 30.63 at around 8 this morning too. Perfect timing! This would have been several degrees below zero if it happened in January wouldn't it? Do you think we have an enhanced chance of that happening this winter?
  13. 20 inches of snow on the ground in the Poconos at 2000 ft
  14. Been down around 17 here, unprecedented November cold My heat is cranked up and its like 85 in my room ugh
  15. Feb 2015 was the coldest month in a long long time- it felt like the Arctic had taken up residence down here!
  16. wow I just transposed the middle two digits on the first one ;-) so in both cases we are talking about 1800s. I wonder if this winter will be as rare as 1995-96 or 2010-11 when we were pulling old analogs like that.
  17. Yes 1995-96 was the crown jewel of winters and funny it was a weak la nina, but with blocking you can get big snows in any enso, as 2010-11 also showed with an even stronger la nina. The difference might have been that la ninas that come after el ninos are usually really good- and the summers between them are also usually really hot and dry (which I also love).
  18. JFK will probably get into the teens since they do well with radiational cooling- better than the city anyway
  19. big el ninos are the best for us, Feb 83, PD2 and Jan 2016 are my three largest.
  20. For sheer frequency of storms as well as our biggest ice storm, it's 1993-94 all the way lol
