  1. Yup although I saw some PWS indicating it hit 90 as far south as Valley Stream around 1 before the sea breeze came in. As usual the western part of the south shore gets it later lol. Weird thing is how did Shirley way out in Suffolk County hit 90, aren't they right on the water? Never got anywhere close to 90 today-- what made it surge north earlier today?
  2. This is called high IQ pitching, the flame throwers will get injured and Cortes will just keep on pitching. The human arm was not designed to throw 95+ mph consistently for more than an inning or two.
  3. we pay for lower temps with much higher humidity. I'd much rather have dry heat
  4. do you have the map for 1 PM and 1:30 PM
  5. that is warm and humid Those places in the 80s were actually more humid than the places in the 90s
  6. Wow I wonder if we may see some global records with these extreme worldwide temperatures. I remember reading that April was the hottest on record in southern Asia. Do you have any global high heat record notifications, Don? Any that are 125 or higher?
  7. wait, I'm confused, are the numbers on the left the forecast highs and the numbers on the right the actual highs? I didn't see what the actual highs today at the airports and the park were.
  8. Yeah this humidity really sucks. Knew we were in trouble when we were fogged in this morning lol
  9. Turned my a/c on at 4 PM finally
  10. so back then with the widespread westerly flow, is that what's known as a "Sonoran Heat Release"-- I noticed that's when we get our hottest weather, like what happened in July 2010 and July 2011.
  11. tainted by high mins, I only measure heat by high temps and number of 90 degree days. it's why you don't see any global heat records coming out of tropical rain forests lol
  12. Yeah but this isn't the "strong" kind of heat that lasts all day. Back in 2010 and 2002 and 1996, the heat was so strong that it would make it all the way to the coast and stay there all day. This time around it made it to the coast for like 30 min (when I hit 90) and then retreated. That's basically what I was asking you, why is it that in some years you get that kind of heat and then you have other times when the heat just touches the coast and then it retreats....is it down to the position of the high?
  13. ah you missed the big heat in 2010 and 2011. Was up in the low 100s then all the way out to Suffolk County. We were over 100 three days out of four in July 2010 around July 4th weekend and then in late July in 2011 we did it two more times and peaked at 104.
  14. damn you missed the heat party. Were you keeping track of your car thermometer.....when did the big drop in temp occur? Were you south of Sunrise Hwy when it happened?
  15. Whats the reason for the sea breeze? What was different about May 1996 (and April 2002)-- is it just down to the position of the high or is it something else? I hit 90 so I'm not complaining, but the heat in those years was much stronger.
  16. Find a way to use up the energy from the sea breeze with wind turbines so we never have to get a sea breeze ever again! It hit 90 here at 1:15 but the sea breeze ruined the heat party 5 min after that.
  17. What time did you get to LB JM?
  18. It hit 90 here at 1:15 the temps didn't start dropping until after 1:20. I hate the sea breeze but a positive of wind energy is if we can harness its power we can use up that energy before it makes here correct? So if we divert the wind away from the coast with wind turbines we can stop the sea breeze from ruining our heat party?
  19. sucks, we went from 90 to 84 in 1 hour and then down to 78 an hour after that. First object of climate modification should be to harness the sea breeze-- so that we can have wind energy AND we can keep it from ruining our heat party!
  20. I hate that @%^& sea breeze. The ocean is way cooler than normal, likely because of the cold spring we've had until now. At least it hit 90 here at 1:15 before the sea breeze kicked in. What was your high? Another chance at 90 tomorrow?
  21. Yep most of Long Island hit 90 and that was awesome, the buzz kill came later than many thought. Sea breeze didn't kick in until just before 1:30, but at least we hit 90 before that happened.
  22. Oh you held off the sea breeze a little longer than I did, I hit 90 at 1:15 and the temp started to drop after 1:20
  23. Yep we hit 90 here at 1:15. Stupid buzzkill with that sea breeze.
  24. We hit 90 here for like 30 min lol I measured my peak temperature at 1:15 PM right at 90. And by 2:20 the sea breeze kicked in and the temps started to drop. Not as extreme of a drop as JFK though which went into the 70s immediately, we stayed in the low and mid 80s until around 3:15 or so which was when we dropped into the 70s. The JFK sensors must be right over Jamaica Bay otherwise there is no reason they would drop so quickly. Most of Nassau County was a few degrees warmer than JFK, I saw Farmingdale, Islip and Shirley all came close to or hit 90. I don't get how Shirley could be hotter than JFK, as they are also basically right on the ocean and stick out much farther out into the ocean.
