  1. Wow so 100+ in three different heat events? That must be highly unusual. I'd like to see what caused the peak of that summer to only reach 103 at Central Park, while it was 104 at JFK, 105 at EWR and 107 at LGA. Somehow NYC ended up at the back of the pack.
  2. 1966 was probably the best summer ever for record dry heat, 102 in June and then three straight days over 100 in July.
  3. The 130.0 Death Valley hit last year is likely the "real" world record.
  4. Do any of these so-called "leaders" even understand how much they are messing the planet up?
  5. How is this different from May 1996? It was about that extreme then too. And what about the April 2002 heatwave?
  6. That's what I think it likely too, near 100 over interior NJ, low 90s in NYC and low 80s on Long Island.
  7. I highly doubt it's that extreme. Looks like Central Park is forecast to reach 90 both days of the weekend, and we'll probably get to 80 near JFK.
  8. That's a built up highly urban area. You literally can't breathe the air there because everything is so clustered together and so polluted. Asthma rates through the roof in that part of Queens too, I think it has the highest asthma rates in the entire country. It's not a "natural" environment to live in. Not to mention that 100+ is extremely rare in the city, the last time it legitimately happened was back in our extremely hot summer of 1966.
  9. why are we going with the Euro? Hasn't the GFS shown itself to be better this year?
  10. Nah the south shore will probably get close to 80, at least the western part of the south shore. Might drop back later into the afternoon
  11. 99 next Saturday? why is no one forecasting that? also looks like more 90s for Memorial Day weekend! do you have a percentage of cloud cover forecast for each day in that period too?
  12. Cant take a 103 temperature reading seriously lol. The last time that happened was 2011.
  13. Likely August or later. Peak severe weather here is September thru November.
  14. Looks like cooler and drier weather coming back after the hot weather spike?
  15. Not a fan of severe weather at all, I'd rather have dry and hot between snow season and tropical season.
  16. This whole scale needs to be changed. Ditch "enhanced" What are the percentages on this? Marginal should be 10%, Slight should be 20%, Moderate should be 30% and High should be 50% If you really want to keep "Enhanced" move it ahead of Moderate and make it 40%, then you have a nice 10% increment scale from 10-50 percent.
  17. I can see it now! But it's out of totality and no more red in it! I can see it through the clouds it looks hazy and like a crescent moon
  18. How high up is it? I can't see it! hey midpoint of the eclipse is soon let me know if you see it
  19. it's so sunny here I have some hope for the eclipse tonight!
  20. I'm not sure how many understand the whole concept of a runaway greenhouse effect or how a chain reaction works. That's basically what's going to happen here. Think of nuclear meltdown-- even if we somehow "boomerang" from that, the damage is already done, and in this case it's actually worse than a nuclear meltdown because on the scale of the planet, things will keep getting worse even after the meltdown stops.... It also reminds me of the chemical industry and Dow and the pesticide chlorpyrifos which damages developing brains. Dow asked California to let them use more of it than regulations allowed, promising they would use less the following year and it would all even out in the end. In typical corrupt corporate form, they never used less....and it had to be outright banned in CA (it's banned here in NY too.)
  21. That makes me wonder are there actually storms that just keep circling the earth over and over again?
  22. 100 degree predictions, Tony?
  23. there will be hell to pay if that eclipse doesn't work out tomorrow night, the clouds can go away forever
