    wow both 2007 and 2018 were historic. in 2007 we had historic 70s heat in January and in 2018 we went from single digit cold in January to near 80 degree historic heat in February and then to historic snow and cold in March and April! and of course this is the day of the historic January 1996 blizzard!

    and then the much more favorable pattern which all the long range forecasters were talking about commences in early February?

    I thought our best part for snow and cold was supposed to start around the 20th? What happened to that?

    24 inches for me, that would definitely make it worth it, especially if it's not snowing here lol.

    That's what I was thinking of too-- and we need 30 days or so to get there (730 day snowless streak.)

    What about Watertown or one of those other towns up there that gets over 200" every year?

    what season is #1? are we number #1 for longest streak without a 2" snowstorm (since that is also undisputed)?

    I think that's why he mentioned a calendar day without 3 inches of snow, since that's an undisputed record lol.

    Sounds intriguing, especially if one of them has a plotline has something to do with undiscovered mysterious sea life at the sea floor!

    Better question is why would you want it anyway... it'll be washed away almost immediately, so might as well keep the historic snowless streak going as long as possible.

    There's a nice park up there, you can stand there and measure the snow for us and live post about it every hour.

    Chris, do you think the slow action on climate change is in part due to the fact that many people actually WANT a warmer climate? I've been thinking that for awhile now, and even in scientific circles people are talking about this and saying-- if our climate becomes more like Hawaii wouldn't that be a good thing because Hawaii has the greatest concentration of biodiversity on the planet so wouldn't a warmer world give us a more biodiverse world? Aside from this, wouldn't the Northern Rockies be another great location from snow since they seem to get heavy snowfalls regardless of what's going on at lower elevations?

    I remember a storm in January 2008 (the infamous failed Heavy Snow Warning storm) where there was a spot of white in SW Nassau and around JFK and the rest of the area was raining. It didn't amount to a lot (1-2 inches) but people driving in from all directions were surprised to see a bit of snow on the ground here lol

    sometimes we're in a really bad spot for snow too. It just depends. However in general, if you really love snow you should move away from the ocean and find some elevation. Sure the climate is changing, but we can change where we live too.

    Our last snowstorm was in 2022, 1-2 inches is just a slopfest lol.
