Interesting that three of those records are from 2002! And Seattle beat their previous record by 16 degrees?! Is there a record for how many degrees a previous record is beaten by lol?

We should just find a way to change that annoying tilt of the earth's axis and make it straight up down. Hey if we can move an asteroid out of the way who knows what else we can do. #dreams of a perfectionist

At this point would you say that November looks like it will be above normal?

It would have been better if we were on Standard time all year. In our 24 hr society, I don't believe those old studies about energy usage apply anymore. On top of that besides what you cited about children going to school in the dark, the other problem that goes away by keeping Standard time all year long is the health impact of switching back and forth between the two.

Year round DST was bound to happen, over the past few decades the amount of time we had Standard Time has been getting shorter and shorter. The writing was on the wall.

There is a huge positive to this which most are ignoring. The time change has been blamed on a rise in car accidents, heart attacks and other issues so having one set time is the right way to go.

LGA around 1.75" Walt (based on the maps)?

Thanks looks like about an inch and a half sounds about right for me, being 5 miles east of there.

Walt, got the JFK totals? The nearest totals to me in those maps were east or north of me, based on that looks like around 1.5" inches here or maybe slightly more.

The question is why?

That's why I try to stick to airport numbers, I'm within 5 miles of JFK.

Such projections reflect typical conditions that develop during La Niña events, which are associated with an episodic cooling of ocean waters in the tropical Pacific. This year, La Niña is forecast to prevail for a third straight winter. ^is it even science to issue outlooks based on this? We have had some amazingly snowy La Ninas, I don't think a forecast can be made on this alone.

Accuweather predicts 18-24" inches of snow for the winter, slightly more than the 17" NYC got last winter. But note that totals ramped up quickly once you got to Queens and east last year-- most of us had around 2 feet of snow or even more. I wonder if that will happen again this winter. Would 2000-01 be a good analog?

I wish the county lines were more prominent in that map, but either way we were in the light turquoise so that's about an inch of rain here. What were the final totals of NYC and the local airports, JFK, LGA, EWR? Thanks!

We had some heavy rain here in SW Long Island too between 9-12 AM. That was plenty of rain, we don't need any more.

On the plus side hopefully the Yankees game won't be rained out. It can rain all it wants on days when the Yankees aren't playing at home.

We don't really need so much rain anymore. Half an inch is just fine.
