  1. Have to say, this year's thunderstorms, when they do hit, have been quite potent. A welcome change to the drought conditions that persisted.
  2. Lots of thunder and dark skies outside. Love it!
  3. Got some good, beneficial rains off and on today. We could use a nice, stalled tropical storm to help us break the drought, though. The lack of moisture is odd in 2020. Lack of rain or snow during the winter months, lack of rain during spring.. definitely thought we were getting close to putting some red flag warnings up. Hopefully the rains we're getting bust the drought and don't let our temps get too high next week.
  4. A tropical storm that stalls over Long Island would be ideal.
  5. A little too windy for my taste, but what a gorgeous day.
  6. I thought you said summers where April and May are both cooler than normal usually feature a cooler than normal summer?
  7. Shades of Chernobyl. The State didn't want scientists to spread anything that in any way shape or form disagreed with the official position of the State. It's easy to see where Trump gets his behavior from.
  8. I still wonder why Dorian wasn't upgraded to a Cat. 5 sooner. Every single piece of data showed it being a Cat. 5 and the NHC refused to upgrade it until they could no longer wait. Very odd behavior.
  9. We also can't create a consensus that the world isn't flat or evolution isn't real. We shouldn't let those that disagree with science hold back our progress.
  10. I'm answering my own question. https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2012/01/why-noaa-commerce-department We should create a cabinet level department that houses Climatology, Geology and Meteorology and move NOAA and the USGS there and create some kind of new organization that deals with climate change.
  11. Why is NOAA under the Dept. of Commerce anyway?
  12. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/noaa-staff-warned-in-sept-1-directive-against-contradicting-trump/2019/09/07/12a52d1a-d18f-11e9-87fa-8501a456c003_story.html “This is the first time I’ve felt pressure from above to not say what truly is the forecast,” the meteorologist said. “It’s hard for me to wrap my head around. One of the things we train on is to dispel inaccurate rumors and ultimately that is what was occurring — ultimately what the Alabama office did is provide a forecast with their tweet, that is what they get paid to do.”
  13. Our tax dollars are being used to attack the very people whose job it is to help save lives. This is horrifying.
