    Is August any kind of canary in the coal mine for how snowy the upcoming winter will be?

    CMC has very heavy rain and winds from Florence up the coast at hour 234 making landfall at Cape Cod at 240 at 979 mb. The Euro and the CMC are in agreement for something to happen with a tropical system up the coast within 10 days time. In a classic battle between the Euro and the GFS, with the CMC in the Euro camp, I'd always side with the Euro.

    An interesting observation this Summer: Whatever short term pattern we're in, we stay stuck in it for a while. First it was persistent rain and thunderstorms for weeks on end and now it's persistent humidity and heat!

    Any update on the severe storms for tonight?

    We need some 12+" snowstorms. With the exception of 2015 and 2010, it's been a decade of smaller to medium storms. We need some actual storms that are predicted to drop more than 12" to actually do so.
