  1. Shouldn't we be talking about tomorrow's storm threat?
  2. Is Winter 2018-2019 so bad that we must post clown maps for storms 9 days away?
  3. Yeah, the UKMET did SO well with the last storm... if the EURO doesn't show 10 inches of snow, I'm not buying a shovel.
  4. Hey, look at that! More rain for NYC! It's not like its January or anything...
  5. To anyone who doubts Dr. No, please look at the last storm we got. EURO said ice for the north, mild and rain to the south followed by arctic air for over a week.
  6. There is one man I would not want to be right now: Bill DeBlasio. If the UKIE is correct and we get blasted with snow again, he'll never hear the end of it. If the UKIE is wrong and they over-prepare for the storm with snow plows in a horrible rainstorm, he'll never hear the end of it. Right now, he can do nothing right.
  7. The problem is the amount of water that accumulates on the branches, power lines and what not will flash freeze with temps plunging into the single digits.
  8. I doubt it really causes too much of a problem... except 2.5" of rain in a short amount of time can cause flooding.
  9. How much of that actually freezes on the surface?
  10. March 2001 called and it wants its biggest model bust of all time back.
  11. But with high winds and much of this precip falling quickly, how much ice actually accumulates on exposed power lines and roads? Just because 1.8" of precip falls, doesn't mean it actually accumulates.
  12. How close is this to an all snow event from NYC-BOS?
  13. My head is hurting. I can't determine from the posts on the storm thread if we're getting the storm Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. I can't determine if we're getting snow, freezing rain, sleet or rain. Are our temps going below freezing or hitting 60? Whatever happened to good old fashioned play by play from one dedicated poster who knew how to analyze the models?
  14. We've officially hit the blank square stage of storm predicting in the 21st century.
  15. I was reading that even if it falls as freezing rain, the rain is coming down too hard for the ground to freeze up too quickly at 30 degrees, whereas more damage would occur if the rain was drizzle.
  16. Meaning NYC never gets above freezing or below freezing?
  17. So, it's going to be really warm and then a lot of preceip is going to move in and we're going to get below freezing rapidly? What is the timing on this?
  18. So... uhh... are we getting a historic catastrophic ice storm for the area or not? Asking for 7 million friends.
  19. Well, it wouldn't be a winter in our area if the models didn't show a winter storm a few days out that had 1,000 different crazy solutions! At least it's something to track!
  20. I think SECS should be anywhere up to 6", MECS could up to 16". You're right on the money with the HECS, though.
