Fall/Winter Banter - Football, Basketball, Snowball?
Wurbus replied to John1122's topic in Tennessee Valley
Saw this article on CNN about the difference in snowfall compared to 50 years ago. https://www.cnn.com/2023/11/25/weather/snowfall-temperatures-climate-change-water/index.html -
We needed that rain!! August 16th - November 20th I received a total of 1.82".....today I've received 2.06" so far! Mostly just light rain now so probably won't get much more.
-
Same. I've managed a whopping .01" of rain from this even in Knoxville :(. I've only received a total of 1.65" since August 16th.
-
Same. I've only had .3 inches since Aug 15th.

I live probably about 2 miles north of where the Tornado went through and had no idea it was happening at the time. Luckily, the wind wasn't too bad at my house, we just received around 1.2" of rain in about 20 minutes.

Kinda wild that I now have received measurable rain on 11 of 19 days in July that has only totaled up to 1.04 inches at my house. The most I've received on a single day so far is .27. A lot of storms have just missed my house and we've only caught some light rain from most of them.

Last thing I expected to see this morning was some light snow in Knoxville. Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk -

I haven't been following the tropics in the southern hemisphere, but it looks like we now have a new record for the longest cyclone in the world. This cyclone formed on Feb 6th, northwest of Australia, trekked across the Indian ocean, plowed into Madagascar, made landfall in Mozambique, then did a u-turn back into open waters and headed back toward Madagascar, and is now heading back toward Mozambique. https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/08/africa/cyclone-freddy-mozambique-record-storm-climate-intl/index.html -

My power has been our since 3pm. 2 trees down on the main road connecting to my subdivision. Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk -
We definitely had freezing fog this morning in Knoxville. My dogs were slipping and sliding on my deck when I let them out this morning.
-
RGEM same as 18z.....cold rain for most everyone.
-
Yeah....the "snow depth" map shows Knoxville at 2 inches, but this map is more fun to look at.
-
NAM will do...
-
I feel like Knoxville has greater than a 1% chance to receive 1" of snow......it might be closer to 10%, but 1% seems awfully low.

I'm never confident in East TN until I see snow coming down out of my windows...

Jan 31 - Feb 1 Ice Possibilities
Wurbus replied to Holston_River_Rambler's topic in Tennessee Valley
Temp definitely dropped. I went from 49 to 39 in about an hour and half. Looks like it has stabilized in the upper 30s now. -

I ended up with a solid dusting. I felt like it snowed for 6-8 hours, but most of it just melted on impact. I never got below 32 until after 2am when most of the moisture let up. I was hoping for a dusting here in KNX, so I'll chalk it up to a win and congrats to everyone else who scored in the mountains!

Been under a decent band for the past 15 minutes or so here in Karns. Temp went from 36 to 33 and grassy areas and roofs are now mostly white with a good dusting.

Looks like MRX issued a SWS for most of East TN. Probably needed to issue something just incase it over performs in the valley areas. ecial Weather Statement National Weather Service Morristown TN 1027 AM EST Fri Jan 13 2023 TNZ036-037-067>069-071-073-086-140000- Anderson-Union-Roane-Loudon-Knox-Northwest Blount-North Sevier- Northwest Monroe- Including the cities of Oak Ridge, Clinton, Maynardville, Norris Lake, Paulette, Rose Hill, Sharps Chapel, Luttrell, Harriman, Eagle Furnace, Rockwood, Bradbury, Fairview, Kingston, Oliver Springs, Lenoir City, Loudon, Bearden, Knoxville, Lake Forest, Happy Valley, Maryville, Alcoa, Harrisburg, Kodak, McMahan, Sevierville, Seymour, Pigeon Forge, Sweetwater, Madisonville, and Bullet Creek 1027 AM EST Fri Jan 13 2023 ...Light Snow Showers Expected This Afternoon and Tonight... I hope Hamlin will recover! I was at the Cincy-Bills game as a Bills fan. It was a great atmosphere....until it wasn't. Cincy fans were top notch and there was nothing but respect. I think we all knew that the game wasn't going to go on after the ambulance left the field, just from the players reactions, but almost everyone stayed until about 10 minutes before they "officially" announced the game wasn't going to continue. If they reschedule the game, I'm not sure if I can go back, but I believe the Bills play at Cincy next year if they win the division so I'll try and go back next year. I've been to a Titans & Panthers home game and Cincy pre-game was 10x better than any of those games. I'm also a Georgia fan, so this past weekend was an extremely stressful weekend sports wise. -
Historic Christmas Cold & maybe snow?! Dec 23rd-30th

Where the sun is shining, none is left. My deck still has a good inch left since it doesn't see the sun this time of the year. -

Wound up with 1.25 here. Funny that we had more on the roads than the 8" we received back in the March storm.
