  1. Past hour
  2. They do. I wish I had time to play. We are meeting friends in Bangor tomorrow and decided to make a weekend of it and stay in the coast. This is a nice place. It was low tide so we walked quite a ways out at Popham.
  3. Those really cold summers were 1903 and 1927. Both were very wet summers in a colder climate. Drier years followed and by the time a wetter cycle (internal variability and climate change-forced) returned, the climate had warmed quite a bit from where it was prior to 1930.
  4. Ya' hope you walked around a bit. Old school Boston neighborhoods.
  5. That 3rd photo from the top is bangin'
  6. Do they still have the golf course out in front? Spent many a summer up there and phippsburg. Quik trip to Cundy's harbor for lobster rolls and beer by boat.
  7. 1821 storm https://www.nj.com/weather/2016/06/monster_storms_the_most_destructive_tropical_systems_to_ever_hit_nj.html 1683 https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/research/roth/va17hur.htm Both https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Atlantic_hurricanes_in_the_17th_century
  8. it's like a one hour drive or an hour and a half by LIRR (I used to work near the Babylon LIRR station.)
  9. Here's how Philadelphia's winters look against the current (very warm) baseline normals:
  10. Atlantic beach was nice. We know someone that lives there now so we had parking and access. Did not like the drive from Babylon but it was great otherwise.
  11. Using the 1991-2020 baseline the huge changed happened around 1940, but I like the other two baselines more, which shows that our summers changed a lot starting in 1930.
  12. Don there are some extremely cold summers prior to 1930, something we have not seen since. There's a huge change pre 1930 to post 1930, what flipped in 1930 to do this?
  13. 99L right between two areas of dry air. Conditions in the central Caribbean are not favorable for development as per the NHC. It will reach there on Tuesday.
  14. Statistically, the back-to-back 102° highs at JFK during late June are a lot rarer.
  15. Here it is with 1951-1980 (which is used by NASA GISS): The most recent summer that was cooler than the above baseline was summer 2017.
  16. You aren’t kidding. We are at a place called Sebasco Harbor, close to Popham Beach. My pictures don’t do the waves justice.
  17. 13-14 was also a +QBO winter. These were the QBO numbers from Nov-Mar, 13-14: Nov: +12.45 Dec: +12.55 Jan: +13.13 Feb: +12.68 Mar: +11.72
  18. Without the wind factor, was a perfect day at Atlantic beach weather wise as I was sitting on the beach i turned around toward the bay side and I caught a glimpse of the freedom tower don’t see this in babylon. water was pooled there due to Erin.
  19. High of 80.6 and very low humidity. What sort of sacrifice did y’all make to the weather gods? This is becoming a historic august
  20. Today
  21. I’m just saying- it hasn’t hit 90 yet this August in Raleigh NC and we’re looking at 50s this week. We’re getting into record territory for coldest August in history. If anything, this burns clock during the peak of the season
  22. Maybe 1966-67? That was the last time I can think of there was a historic winter in the Pac NW and on the east coast in the same season. It was the best winter of the 1960s (although 1960-61 also makes a very strong case.)
  23. 82 here on coastal Maine. Great waves again today.
