And I’m in favor of the distance requirement increase. The term derecho should be confined to the top 1% of severe squall lines. And not just in distance but degree and extent of wind damage and (if possible) measured wind gusts.

TBH, with the new (well not that new) distance requirement we may never see a derecho again in the Northeast unless it’s something that rips across the upper mid-West and northern Great Lakes, southern Quebec, and then finally our region. The start of the heat wave here busted; only got to 27 instead of 30C, my current temp is 25C but some showing it rising mid-evening and staying around 27C til early morning. They lowered (WUN) tomorrow's high from 34 to 31C, what a gas! That heavy rain and storm mid-day cooled things but I feel the sultry with the vital breeze.

Around Jan 25. That's typically when the sun angle declines just enough for you guys to cool down into the lower 90s for highs.
