    Yeah that’s the only problems bear really get into… they’ll take out a whole coop or flock. I’m not sure I’ve heard of bear attacking chickens just free roaming… but that thing will get inside a coop and go nuts. First time ever my folks had a big bear in the woods behind the camp in Woodstock, CT.

    neighbor has chickens. They have probably had 50 of them killed by raccoons, bear, fox, and coyote. the guy is a cop, and NH fish and game was not pleased when he shot and killed a bear that was attacking his coop. my house is like 300 yards away, and I have seen 1 bear (but plenty of bobcats and coyotes) in the time I’ve lived here.

    They grab a lot of fawns around my place. Truthfully there's too many deer.

    Ha, they are everywhere and again, super shy but curious. Like large raccoons. No one ever gets mauled by a black bear. I’m sure you’ve seen the videos of like a bear coming up to a napping human, taps it or something and then freaks out and runs away once they wake up. Theres that famous video from somewhere in Mass that was made into a Ring doorcam ad.

    Dead livestock is my major concern. Coyotes love newborns.

    Im glad you confirmed that. Didnt want to declare a blank but nothing measurable fell while I was up there.

    We have coyotes, but even they keep a low profile. Neighbors complain about pets disappearing, and animal control encourages reporting them and (shall we say dealing with them). But, can’t imagine bears walking about on a daily basis. They’re protected. You just have to run and hope anything or anyone makes it on their own!

    Thankfully I don't have any. I've only seen tracks once. Although some beehives were raided nextdoor.

    Huh? Bears are the most shy animals out there. I hiked into one two days ago. Thing just stared at me and then seemed embarrassed I was looking at him and turned away… walked down the path a bit and looked back again, then fled. I would 100% run into a black bear out of most other things. Moose are the mean motherf*ckers who will stand off with you. Bear just want to eat their berries and grasses alone.

    P.S. Since we’ve had so much severe weather along with flooding rains over the last couple of weeks I thought I’d mention I watched the documentary on Netflix about the Joplin, Missouri tornado from May 2011. I highly recommend! It was extremely moving. It’s amazing… how it sparked so many flashbacks to being a child growing up in the Midwest. The sirens… still enough to provoke chills in this 50 something adult.

    How do you all walk around knowing you could just stumble upon one of those at any given time? I carry a hand cannon just for varmints (woodchucks, groundhogs, whatever you want to call them). Fuckers are mean as hell cornered. Raccoons and opossums are also subject a round being fired.
