2026-2027 Record-breaking El Nino
GaWx replied to Stormchaserchuck1's topic in Weather Forecasting and Discussion
Thanks. I didn’t include 72 and 97 because they were during a far different part of the QBO cycle. 72: at the end of a negative phase 97: start of a new negative phase -

When I moved here I started eating a lot of peaches

Up to .62" now and it is much appreciated. We aren't as dry as last year but still need rain. Growing season is done here with 28° last week so this should be able to soak in pretty good.
-
And here I thought peaches come from a can and were put there by a man in a factory downtown.

Sure…we’re stepping down. I get it. But an early CAA freeze with a period of warmth following is just a bit of a bummer for me with my late ripening stragglers. If I can steal another week of ripening time by having a 33° min versus a breezy 28° I’ll take the 33°. There’s plenty of winter and cold to come. Reminder to everyone…I don’t control the weather despite what I wish for.

January continues the heavy snow totals according to him

0.34". 40F. Raw and cold. Sent from my SM-S921U using Tapatalk

I do. They’re growing pawpaws up into Minny and Quebec. But a lot of growers are having ripening issues due to some flower bud damage from the late April cold shot that came after a few days of 70s to 80. And there’s a lot of solid peach options for the north now…cultivars that can handle -20s in winter that are also late blooming so they can avoid late spring freezes. They’re just not the ones you’d expect to see at a grocery store. Contender, Challenger, Intrepid, PF-24, Siberian C…heck even Redhaven is decent.

First widespread wind headline of the season ahead

But, but there is always hope…. Yeah maybe above 2500’ in the greens and whites. One thing is absolutely certain, some rich people are going to loose allot of beach homes in SoCal. .

I think we covered all of this. Asking for precise and accurate explanations for the size and direction of the NCEI corrections is your prerogative, but then you open the door to the exact same questions about the siting and operation of these stations. Where exactly were these stations in relations to surrounding trees, building, steel mills? Where the shelters done correctly? Where the thermometers calibrated properly? And so on. If you ask others to provide exhaustive facts that the adjustments are correct, then you must also respond to the question--was the data perfect to start with?

1997 actually isn't that bad of a QBO analog upon closer look...not great, but not bad...def. awful for solar, though. I think I will include it on the QBO composite given how strong of an ENSO match it is....solar is prohibitive of its' inclusion of a polar analog, though. -

2026-2027 Record-breaking El Nino

I know I've been saying this but Gem has been leading the way. Come December I can only assume this El Nino will be off the charts way more than it is now. -
Reliance peach is hardy to zone 5 and several friends here in the foothills grow them successfully. Unfortunately, our rad pit microclimate is 4B; median for winter's coldest is -24. We planted a Reliance soon after moving here in May 1998. It would grow strongly then die back for 3 years, then 2001-02 never got colder than -12, avoiding the dieback. That summer we had 100+ sweet peaches, then 2002-03 had a dozen mornings at -20 to -29. The tree had died back to the ground then weakly sprouted from below the graft. It died in August. Tut fini.

Ya…some years/Octobers are warmer than others…obviously. But my point was more like what Brian and Dave mentioned…. Shoulder seasons so to speak..transition time. One season is waiting and another is taking over, and there are variations due to the conflict.

You left out December 72 and 97 two strong ninos.which were above normal but noting drastic like 82 and 15 -
Yeah most years we are above normal.
