Mount Joy Snowman Posted yesterday at 12:07 PM Share Posted yesterday at 12:07 PM Low of 58 with .03” of rain. Should be a nice line passing through ahead of this cold front this evening.
canderson
That line this afternoon might be pretty nasty. I can see someone around here getting some 50 to 60 mph winds.

And the timing of it looks like it'll get to us right in time for my wife's commute home from work.

Yup, 3-6 pm or so timing. Seems all our squalls come through around the same time.
ChescoWx
Enjoy today! Highs should reach the mid to upper 70's which is about 10 degrees above normal. A strong cold front will cross the region tonight with a line of storms during the evening hours. Temperatures will fall from the upper 50's at midnight to lows in the upper 40's by morning. Behind the front is some very chilly air for mid-October. Temperatures during the day tomorrow will struggle to escape the 40's across the ridges with low 50's in the valleys. By Sunday morning we should see lows in the mid 30's with a freeze possible in the colder valleys! Temperatures will run well below normal through Monday before we return to near normal by Tuesday. We look to stay dry through the new work week according to the ChescoWx model. In weather history on this date in 2009 the county high only averaged 41 degrees...the coldest October 16th since records began in 1890!

Temps in the 80s in Oct would normally set me off but knowing relief is a few hours away makes it tolerable.. i love strong frontal passages but hoping for minimal damage reports around the region. .

canderson
There was limited CAPE but I thought the line would pop. The forward speed increase might’ve had it outrun instability for the capital region.
Yardstickgozinya
All bark, and absolutely no bite down here as I expected. Only a couple raindrops. There might still be some rain coming in on the backside here.

You are correct in that cape is limited, but the storm hasn't outrain anything, in fact, it's moved into a better environment as far as cape and lapse rates go. The inversions in both the mid and upper levels, is the most likely convective inhibiting mechanism. Thunder and lightning just started rocking out of this thing as it moves out into the distance. Yardstickgozinya
The southern part of the storm in pennsylvania is still lagging behind in the better environment. Convective maintenance will be a struggle not too long after crossing the river. Not only will storms have to deal with inhibition, it's also going have to deal with a setting sun. Mount Joy Snowman
Current temp of 50 is the low. Only .12” of rain as the storm line was pretty underwhelming here. Down near freezing the next couple nights, time to bring the palm in for the year. Onward.
