Severe wx noob, I got my gf in wesrern Mebane rn The hook shape near Burlington plus the difference in velocities by Burlington. The velocities are inbound/outbound from the radar. (It can't see cross-wise wind). In this case, a somewhat small difference of like 30mph may be an indicator of a tornado, which of course has much stronger winds. 1

Avdave Posted yesterday at 12:27 AM Share Posted yesterday at 12:27 AM Absolutely dumping rain here in Brier creek. Lightning has been very impressive. I think a street light got struck as there was a bright flash driving home near Wake Med hospital in BC. Flash Flood warnings in effect here as well .57" so far this evening.

Avdave Posted yesterday at 01:27 AM Share Posted yesterday at 01:27 AM Lost power here for ten mins or so with that last hit from the storms. Pretty impressive with the windswept heavy rain and tons of lightning. Looks like we will finish up with 2.57" here. Incredible.

NorthHillsWx Posted yesterday at 01:53 AM Share Posted yesterday at 01:53 AM Absolutely one of the worst storms I can remember living in the Raleigh area for most of my 37 years. Powers out for half the neighborhood including the street behind me, we lost power for several short durations, but the wind In the last cell that came through made it sound like a hurricane. It was a ton of lightning at the beginning but all the flashes with the final cell were transformers blowing. There’s a big tree in the power lines one street over and I’m sure there are plenty down in this area. Never saw any hail but it sounded like it was mixed in against the windows. Anyone else go through that final cell and have same experience? I was going to call this a dud besides the rainfall until that came through. Picked up 1.02” here which brings the MTD to a shocking 14.49”
NorthHillsWx Posted yesterday at 01:59 AM Share Posted yesterday at 01:59 AM Duke outage map confirms it, 17k out in this area alone. This is telling: https://outagemap.duke-energy.com/#/current-outages/ncsc

We also have lost power, however I didn't notice the crazy wind, but am being told by my SO that it was worse than I thought. I also didn't see any hail but definitely super heavy rain. And a crazy amount of lightning with the power going out right near the end. I'm not far from Shelley lake in Raleigh if that helps nail down the area. Where is the tree down at? Duke street and stonehill have trees down near me. Im close to Millbrook and six forks in the lakemont area. Quiet out now so you can hear all the generators running. I can hear the cell tower generators running across the lake near lead mine. Based on the little damage I am seeing around here, I definitely think we didn't get as strong winds as you/they did just a half mile/mile east of here. Only small branches and debris on the ground over here.

GaWx
It already hit 99.5 at 2:15PM at my place! The highest so far this season that I’ve seen here is 101.1, which was at 2:35PM on July 12th. Winds are from the SW, keeping the seabreeze away. Skies are mostly to partly sunny with an ugly haze. ——————— *Edit: 100.5 at 2:30PM! Since I don’t have RH, I don’t have a heat index. However, based on surrounding stations, it’s likely ~113! ————— *Edit: 100.9 at 2:46PM! *Edit: 101.1 at 3:22PM, which ties with my hottest of the summer to date on July 12th!

GaWx
Scattered convection (moving ESE just like 3 days ago) has been occurring throughout the area since ~7:45PM. I’m away from home and so have no idea how much I got there. The cooldown from today’s 99-101 in the area has been dramatic!
