This is as much about the high dewpoints as it is about the heat, itself:

EXTREME HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 7 PM EDT THIS EVENING
* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values 112 to 116
possible.

* WHERE...Coastal southeast Georgia and southeast South Carolina.

* WHEN...From 11 AM this morning to 7 PM EDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during
extreme heat and high humidity events.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

A New Orleans special

Not quite the bullseye this storm, we received an additional 1.5" mostly overnight last night.

Total July to date : 3.6"

Not too shabby but Falls River (err, Falls Lake) has a long way to go.

Another 1.6" last night. 5 hour power outage thrown in for fun. 5.2" month to date  after an above average June.

The darn trees will start falling out of the ground due to saturated soils.

The  ephemeral  streams in our neighborhood have returned. They're running for a few hours after the precipitation stops. The watershed is back doing its thing.

It’s still an oppressive 97.3 at my place with mostly sunny skies. I don’t know what the high was but my guess would be ~99 (about the hottest of the year so far) and HI’s way up there. :(

Southern Wake getting in on the fun!

Storm actually had decent rotation over Harris lake. Would’ve been photogenic @eyewall

We were on the edge of the storm enough that it stayed really bright, which just made it clear just how insanely windy it was. We also got a nice burst of hail.

Wound up with .19". Some possible rotation around Cary Crossroads. Wind was decent too. mPING reported hail reported in the area. Down to 77/81.

edit: this time of day should produce some nice rainbows.

Crazy rainbow here right now. Got fringed by storm just a few hundredths of an inch but it’s been an excellent one to watch go by. Power outages showing up around Cary. Probably a microburst in that area based on mPING reports

Man...radar looked like James City got slammed! Heard food lion there without power during storm! (Near bridge)

That area did. I am about 5 air miles from there. They hail and high winds. The storm calmed down a bit by the time it got to my house.

You always have great photos. I really want to get a drone. Unfortunately it's a want, not a need. So will probably have to wait until Christmas.

thank you and it is great for chasing the jungles we have here.

I have a very limited view to the east and west. A drone would be fantastic as most of our storms come from the west or southwest.
