Got a nice downpour in CLT just a bit ago and now the sun is back out. Maybe that'll add some instability and get some heavier storms this evening and keep the rain flowing.

Picked up 0.14” from a pretty decent band of showers I wasn’t really expecting this afternoon. Good start

 Keep in mind that the heavy rains covering much of the SE US since yesterday are of course not taken into account since these weekly maps are based on data being submitted no later than 8AM two days ago. Only the N 1/2 of AL showed improvement.

I expect only minor changes to the drought map after this event. We still need a lot of rain for meaningful changes.

Although not for all areas, of course, I feel that next week’s map may show notable improvement (say at least one drought category) in portions of the SE. Besides the current system, there’s more waiting in the wings for especially S areas Fri/Sat! The N 1/2 of AL was the only area on the SE drought map that showed notable improvement.
